Hi all! Well, sue me...I chickened out...of nearly everything! Well, not totally, but sort of... We were running late on Saturday...in spite of getting up at a reasonable hour, we still didn't arrive at faire until nearly 11am...then my sweetie still had to "garb up" in the parking lot, taking up an additional 30 minutes plus! I knew I might not be brave enough (or on time enough) to make the photo-op...maybe another year. Saturday was a day of purpose for us, as I was trying feverishly to find a dress to wear for our upcoming nuptials on the 10th...I had wanted to devote more time of the first day of faire to just enjoying ourselves, but this HAD to be done. Thankfully, I found a lovely burgundy velvet (yes, I was trying on velvet...on SATURDAY!!!) gown from Nobless Oblige...so that much was accomplished.... But here's where I must confess my chicken-ness...I saw many familiar faces (from this site) at the faire on both Saturday and Sunday...Amras, Will Paisley, Black Fox...and found myself freezing, unable to just jump forward and introduce myself...call me a coward, call me a chicken....(shaking my head)...what can I say? I DO need therapy! I DID manage (after several bee stings) to introduce myself to the lovely Magpie on Sunday and she was ever so friendly, gave us a sip through her straw, and made me feel more welcome and accepted than I had dreamed possible. It was a breakthrough moment for me! So thanks, Ms. M! Maybe in the weeks to come, I will be brave enough to venture out of my shell and say 'hi'...meanwhile, in spite of my horrible malady and the heat, it was a lovely and terrific weekend! Sunday, the coolness in the air rejuvenated us both and I dreamed of finding a way to move into the faire full time! ;D We were exhausted by our return home last night, after our 3 hour drive, but it was soooo worth it! I can't wait until next weekend! Thanks for letting me exist here on your site in spite of being an utter failure at "joining in." Love to you all!! Tigerlily....who is presently more 'lily' than tiger!

Well you are VERY welcome...I enjoyed meeting you both!!! :-) I do have some crash space if you both wanted to come again and stay :-) I missed BOTH photo ops as I was talking to EVERYONE...a suggestion to Black Fox if you are reading this :-) Can we have the photo down by the White Hart again or even the Dragon? It is soooooooooo difficult to make it back to the front gate? Cheers!!!!

Tiger, No need to be afraid, we only bite if we like ya ;D I understand your trepidation but I can tell you from the folks that I finally formally met, Black Fox, Amras, Ana, Blair, and the guy we called cigar man everyone is super nice and charming. I hope that we get to meet you next weekend! I will buy you and your future hubby a round. Huzzah!

Thanks to everybody here for their kind words and thoughts! My trepidation and shyness (who KNEW I was so shy?!) quite nauseate me, but I will strive hard in the weeks to come to find the courage and boldness that I need! (I hear often those things hide in the bottoms of meade cups! haha!)
Magpie, thanks soooo much for your lovely offer! Unfortunately, most weekends have to be spent with some busy days at work, as I work for my fiance and he runs his own business *sigh* BUT I will keep it in mind and pass the word on to him of your extreme generosity and kindness!
Next weekend, I will STRIVE, for sure, to actually work up my nerve! I couldn't believe how I froze! I'm not quite sure of what I am afraid...I actually was within touching distance of Black Fox on 2 occasions and actually managed to make eye contact with Amras once! (Now, Amras, will you be running through the mental image file in your mind, wondering who I am? Nahhhhh....) I actually found myself making a step (literally) toward Amras, only to find myself freezing in my tracks! As it was, it was VERY early in the day for me on Saturday, I'd had only one meade, and well, the rest is history...
But again, I will try in the weeks to come to come out of my shell a bit. Not sure where all this shyness is coming from, for you all have proven to be a very lively, loving, and kind bunch o' people...
Blessings to you all!!!

...interesting you should say that lass, about eye contact...I remember, but allow me to let you in on a bit of my own past...When I was very young, and on up until I graduated from high school (won't mention a year, but lets just say that the movie "Star Wars", no number or subtitle, came out that summer), I had a pretty bad speach impediment...didnt keep me from singing, or playing instruments, but I could hardly put three words together...as a result of that, I was a pretty shy boy and, consequently and to this day, I will still hesitate to be the one to start a conversation with someone my tiny brain tells me I should be conversing with...so, kick me, hard, for not saying "hi" to those pretty eyes, and know that you aren't alone!

I PROMISE!

Hey Tigerlily, I found out this past weekend that Amras is quite the gentleman so I think you haven't got anything to fear. I'd love to say hi to you this weekend (and I totally know the fear of introducing myself. There are still quite a few people I've not said hi to yet.)

Which reminds me, do you guys tailgate every weekend or is that really just for the opening?
And do you like peanut butter?
And by the by, I was told that there were 11,600 people at the MDRF on opening day.

Mmmm, Mongo like peanut butter! On the serious side, that opening day was UNREAL. I don't think I have ever seen it so busy on opening day, and a HOT day at that. We were all talking about that inside. I was talking to one of my vendor friends and he said that he sold more on opening day this year than many of his busy days last year. Most opening days I remember from the past it was like us and about 50 of our closest friends ;D I kinda liked having the place to myself, the only other people getting coffee were vendors and actors. I'm sure the vendors love it though!

P.S. Our faire rocks for people dressing up by the way! I think ours is one of the few where people in garb almost outnumber those..... errrr, other people

And yeah, I didn't expect nearly so many people there on Saturday after everyone had talked about how it usually wasn't so busy early in the season. Crazy.

Ana, thanks for your kind words (as well as yours too, Blue Dragonlady...and the offer of 'a round')...I greatly appreciate it and I am serious about making more of an effort to be brave. I know I'm being silly....but anyway... I'm sorry to hear it might be rainy this weekend...been there, done that...I can handle drizzley better than downpours...saw last night on the weather forecast that this storm's supposed to move up and over our lovely faire sometime on Saturday...but then again, these guys are never right anyway...(apologies to any meteorologists out there!) I think the MDRF IS the best there can possibly be...of course, I have no frame of reference...but was commenting to K (my fiance) about people in garb...how on one site, I saw an observation that about 10% of folks dress in garb and how that was the most that that particular person had ever seen, as opposed to other faires. For me, I would feel sooooo weird and awkward if I were not in garb! I feel so much more a part of things that way and would feel like a total alien if I were not wearing period clothing. And about the attendance...yep, sounds like you got roughly the same figure that we were given on Sunday...(don't kill me...but the guy who's the bartender at the Dragon....slight brogue...y'all know his name, I don't...but I look forward to seeing him every year)...anyway, he told us that it was 11,400...so we're within 200 of each other. I remember last year it being sooooo much quieter...no lines for tickets whatsoever! We couldn't BELIEVE this year! The lines were outrageous (note: Next year, get fairever pass via mail!)...our jaws were hanging open... One lady last year told us that the first weekend or 2 were usually attended by mainly the "die hard" Rennies....well, not this year...which is great for the faire and the vendors...but like Mongo, I'm partial to smaller crowds...Sunday was better for me this past weekend...cooler temps, fewer people...BRING on AUTUMN!!

And by the by, I was told that there were 11,600 people at the MDRF on opening day. The semi-organized tailgate has been an opening-day only happening for 2 years now. On other fest days, I'm usually there NLT 0900, enjoying the morning and renticipation, usually with some coffee and fritters... There are several early morning fest "regulars" who do the same. Always look forward to seeing them out in the lot... P.S. Amras, like Mongo, love peanut butter...and am also only pawn in game of life...

I will now be able to address him properly...as any good bartender will do, he saw us for the first time (this year) on Sunday and said how good it was to see us back. This could be just a good-bartender ploy...or maybe he did remember us (although in the crowds the sizes he serves, who could?!) Either way, it felt really good! We had a few other encounters like that this past weekend, so maybe folks are remember the looks of us...or maybe they're just good customer service people! ha! Mmm....coffee and fritters! Sounds wonderful! (but fattening...darn!) I think I have to save up all of my "wasted" calories on bee stings!

I think I'll have to show up early on Saturday with peanut butter corn flakey things in tow, then. The bartender thing sounds cool. I was just glad a couple of the people who work in one of the shops I frequent remembered who I was (although I may have been remembered as "that girl who hangs around here a lot"....hmm....)

Wow, if it was this crowded on opening day, I don't want to think about what it's going to be like later in the season! Not that it's a bad thing for the faire, I just don't like getting stuck in "cattle mode". Mary's dale way will be impassable...

Most of us are actually rather shy at first I think... I believe I saw you at the one merchant though... I remember a lady trying on a purple overdress at the shop across from the White Hart - NOT Nobless as I don't go in there. (I know I can't afford it). Midnight and I were looking at things and planning our brithday treasures. Twas you? I know I am pretty shy and I also get overwhelmed with the crowds at times especially with my kids which are attention drawing and revel in it. Hope to meet you Monday.

I guess you were talking about me trying on the dress? Um, nope, sorry, wasn't me...maybe you meant someone else? I tried on 2 dresses that day...one was at the shop (uh, darn, where was it?....not far from the big hammer thingy where you try to ring the bell...sort of across from that)...yes, I've been going to faire for 3 years now and still don't know what everything's called....I tried on one ensemble that consisted of a burgundy underskirt, velvet overskirt with matching bodice and sleevery (whatever THAT is called...) I wound up then at Nobless and even though I wouldn't normally spend that much $$ on garb, it WAS my wedding dress, so I figured I'd splurge. I will, however, keep my eyes peeled for you and other folks here and WILL be brave, I will, I will, I will! (oh, and goody...we found out today that we actually have a room to stay in in Annapolis on our wedding weekend...up until today, we'd not been able to locate anything closer than Easton! OY!...yay, and joy, and happiness for me...doing my happy dance!!! ) ;D

Tigerlily, it's nice to have you here and many congrats on your upcoming nuptuals. I'm Annabelle, as you can see <-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyhoo, don't think that you are any different then the rest of us when it comes to being overwhelmed by meeting the group. I drove in on opening day last year, saw the group (we are hard to miss), started walking toward them (with mom, cousin, niece, and sister in tow) got about 5 rows away, turned around and said, "I'm going home, I CAN'T do this."
I had met Fox the year before but he was the only one I knew, so I saw him outisde opening gate, told him I just couldn't meet everyone (at this point I was literally shaking in fear) and went along with my day.
At the opening day pics, Fox SCREAMED my name at the top of his lungs..."HEY LOOK IT'S ANNABELLE, ISN'T SHE JUST CUTE!!! SHE LOVES TO BE STARED AT AND TALKED TO!!"
I was mortified, I looked at my sis and said, "Ok, time to go now".
I didn't and although it took me another two weeks to finally get the nerve to talk to our wonderful Captain Chelle, she is one of my best friends now and I consider myself a part of this terrific "Fairemily".
Heck, I was even social director for a while, before my personal life took over and I had to resign.
Now it's an open group joke about how "shy" I am. I'm one of the first people to yell out if I recognize a face. These people are terrific, they expect nothing from you but to be yourself. Enjoy it!
Don't let the whole season pass you by before you take the opportunity to meet more of us. And fear not, if I can enlarge that pic and recognize your face, when I do make it to Faire, I will bellow at you from wherever I may see you.
Huzzah Tigerlily, and Welcome!!

You guys are so nice, I'm ready for round two! Besides, I owed Master Will a beer. I hope the weather won't interfere too much this weekend. I've spent the past two days thinking about what (and who) I missed last weekend, what new things I need to buy next weekend, and how to use the three-day weekend to my advantage.
