Well, it's 63 days until Opening Day. That's exactly one MDRF season long, so if you think about how fast the faire season always passes, then by that measure we'll be outside the front gate Real Soon Now. I've been doing a Thread Stimulus Program, if you will, for the last few years, and this is it again. If something I bring up here has already been hashed around, my apology. I lurk all off-season and hopefully that won't occur.
I haven't heard much talk about "All's Faire in Love." If you haven't seen the trailer, go to Patriotpictures.com and have a look. It was shot at the Michigan Faire, with Christina Ricci among others. I am keeping an open mind about it. FAIK, it may go straight to DVD, but if it does get seen by a chunk of the general population, and bearing in mind that most people haven't been to a faire before, it could wind up being the most significant image maker Ren Faires have ever had (for better or worse). I actually have been watching the trailer often, the character Rank is pretty funny to me. And I love the line "Good luck with the money..."
I really think the FreeCreditReport.com commercial demands a response. This commercial will still be playing in September and October. I would like to see some brave cast member start opening gate by singing something similar to that song. If you really want to go for authenticity, I believe he's playing a Fender Jazzmaster. Then before he gets very far into the song, Fight School! or some other weapon wielding group could come out and skewer him. He could even die a different way each weekend. Whatever, but gotta have a response of some sort.
I meant to mention this one last year, but forgot. If you search on Byrds Renaissance Fair on Youtube, you'll get a song they wrote in 196? called, uh, Renaissance Fair. It was based on the very early years of RPFS. It's short and nothing you'd put on your Ipod, but a neat little piece of faire history.
Sorry about the Caps, but at least the team that beat them won it all. OTOH, that team was the @%#^! Penguins...
Found a great DVD collection for Shakespeare fans. It's called Age of Kings, and it covers Richards II and III and Henries IV, V and VI, all parts. It's a B&W BBC collection from the early sixties. I don't actually own it yet, but all the reviews I've read are terrific. Sean Connery plays Hotspur, what could be better?
I see Sims 3 is out. I still don't understand why there is not a SimFaire. One of you programmers out there, would you please make this game? Thank you very much.
Not much to say about the possible relocation of Revel Grove, except that this being my 23rd season, I would absoeffinlutley LOVE a new village to explore!!!!! But I like what Mr. Smith said, that it will only happen if everything about it is right.
I haven't been able to find any news about entertainment for this season. I checked quite a few sites and the usual suspects are coming. The only hint I've seen was this line on the official site: < For 2009, focus will be on: new, BIG sound band for major stage > I'm guessing that's the Serengeti Stage (sorry, always have to say that.) I'll keep looking, but does anybody else have some actual news?
That's it for now, unless somebody knows a garbmaker in Maryland they could recommend. I'm in Severna Park.
