Since I cannot confirm this, I am posting this in the rumor board. I heard that it is in the lease contract for the grounds that the faire has to be closed by 7 pm. I realize that hours for faire are 10 to 7 so to have everything closed and vacated by that time is nearly impossible but it does explain why the hurry to kick everyone out ASAP.

Regardless of contract, many people are there starting from 7-8AM and want to go home, most employees including security are on hourly wages, and it is much harder to clear the parking lot out after dark as seen in October. Anyone who forgot where they parked in the field when it's dark can attest to this. Safety is also a big priority.

Nothing more annoying than the dregs of the drunks. Little pockets that ellude the security, cause no greater harm than loud, obnoxious, and trying to manhandle your product as you pack. Many vendors tend toward the subtle, annoyed behaviour to sweep the dustbunnies out. I, however, have a big voice and commanding nature, and nothing so convience as, "EXCUSE ME, THE FAIRE IS CLOSED AND THE RUMORS OF AFTER-HOURS PARTIES ARE LIES!PLEASE LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!" It tends to work. oh...the rumors of after hours parties truely are wrong. At many faires it is true, but not at Maryland. Peace, Bramble

Borrowed from Major Chaos when he contacted faire mgt re: before and after faire tailgating:
Here is the response that I got back from Faire...
Greetings -
Thanks for writing in. The pre-show gathering is not a problem, as long as you don't arrive at sunrise! A reasonable time for meeting is agreeable and makes sense, especially if you have a large number of friends gathering.
As for the end-of-evening soiree, that could be a problem. As you know if you've been here before, crowd and car control are an issue. It is imperative that we move the crowds out of here as soon after 7 p.m. as possible. The festival does not own this property; we are contractually obligated to vacate the property on festival days and weekdays. A tailgate could also hinder the flow.
For those reasons, we cannot sanction a get together after festival hours. Perhaps your group could pick a local restaurant (McDonald's, Denny's, etc. located very close by) for a post-faire party. Enjoy!

Remind me to forget to give Bramble ANY directions to our after faire stuff. My feelings are hurt! LOL Just messing. Hey, I have a friend who says, "Say what you mean and say it mean." Works for me.

I know for me, I have been up since 6:30 am to get to faire, to help set up the booth and other stuff till opening gate. By the time 7 hits I am more than ready to get some dinner and get some sleep. Most of us on cast, boothies or food places rarely get a chance to just sit for more than a few minutes. So we are hurting at the end of the day too.
Since I work the closing shift at Noblesse when the cannon roars for end of day, I am taking stock off the door and getting it ready to get closed up. I really believe "If you wanted to see it you had 9 hours to get here. Now go home and come back tomorrow!"
