<<Smith said his show is one of the best in the country. But not everyone agrees. George Coulam, who owns the Texas Renaissance Festival near Houston, said Smith and many others around the country are too businesslike in their approach to running the festival. >>
TRF season pass: $200
MDRF season pass: $70
You draw the conclusion.

Yes but TRF is huge and I think it lasts longer.
Still ... that's pretty steep.

Ah.... lovely TRF. Been there many times. Sadly I'm going to miss it this year *pout*. But actually.. it is shorter in run than MDRF. They are only 8 weekends 10/-11/20. And yes.. it is larger than MDRF but It is defintely not worth $200 for a season pass. The only upside to paying that much... if you can call it that.. is the camp groups are within walking distance of the faire. Yes but TRF is huge and I think it lasts longer. Still ... that's pretty steep.

Granted we might be able to only do the four depending on the age of when child/adult start but still! Wow! Texas is bigger, tix at gate is $21 and you have to pay $2 for the program. In terms of total attendance it is #1 in the US followed by Minnessota and our own Maryland. In terms of MDRF, over the past few weekends we have had a couple of radio and TV stations do remotes from fair but they have done it from outside the gates.

From the bizjournal article: "Smith is looking into opening a great hall in Maryland where off-season events such as weddings, Halloween parties, May fairs and Mardi Gras celebrations can be held." Now that sounds cool!

To you all radio listeners:
On whichever station they do a battle of the sexes, they should have two castmembers this Friday. I think it may be on 107.3

Even if this quote is over five years old, it is something I have said they should consider doing. I don't know what the rules/laws of the area are, but can you imagine a winter festival or some other kind of festival on the grounds. For the most part, the weather around here is not bad, sure, it gets cold, but there's not a lot of snow. Hmmm.. how about filling the joust field with water and making an ice rink... or... well, you get the idea.
