After 18 years of making the haul from Northern Virginia, I am now in Anne Arundel County. My address is Glen Burnie, but I see more Pasadena signs (?). I'm at 648 and 177; 100 and rt 2 are nearby. Someone here mentioned Whispers restaurant, that's about where I am. So....what's the fastest way to get to the festival? It looks like 100 to 97 to General Hwy, is there a better way? Is going down rt 2 south better or worse? If anyone knows any shortcuts, I'd love to know.
Thanks,
Bob

When I first moved to Maryland, I was living in Severna Park, right off 97 and Veterans Hwy and the people I was living with suggested I take Veterans Hwy to Generals Hwy and go down that way to Crownsville. It's a nice drive and you supposedly don't run into as much traffic coming off 97. Of course, it's a bit longer to drive since the speed limit is slower but...just depends on what you want to do, I suppose.
Anyway, that's the way I'll be going, still. (I'm in Millersville, right off 97 still, a mile or two south of 100)

Hi skumfan! I vote for this route: I-97 South to the Crownsville Exit. That's the route we take. I think that making an EARLY start is the key to a quick trip. I'll be taking a slightly different route this year, though... (long story). We lived in Glen Burnie, very close to Route 10. Not as close to Faire as we wanted to be, but it was a good neighborhood and I-97 is (usually) a fast road. See you soon...

Hi, skumfan, Am here...used to live in Crownsville, live in Severn now...I'd agree that the best route is 100 to 97 to exit 5, and do it early...(I usually have coffee and apple fritters in the lot well before opening...)...
2 weeks and a wakeup...

Ana, Alastair and Amras:
Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like each way has its benefits, I'll try 'em both. Now if only MDRF started at 11:00 like PARF, I'd have it made. I wonder how things will go this year leaving the grounds. My general rule is that the exit jams don't start until Scottish weekend, but since they've changed the weekend themes around this year, that may not apply. I hate waiting in that jam, I've even thought of bringing a bicycle and parking somewhere nearby, then pedaling the rest of the way to the site. But where?

Skumfan, its such a matched pair of narrow entry and exit choke points, from both directions, that the only way to avoid the jam is to get there very early, like I do, and then, later, to decide if pub sing is worth the "wait" or not. I usually make 1 pub sing, early in the season, and then exit early the rest of the season, strictly to avoid "parking in line" on Crownsville Road for extended periods of time on the way out.l Cheers!

i'm at Faire til the bitter end, then i find a gathering or tail-gate while waiting for the traffic to subside. Or, i take a nap in my car, that's why i bring a blanket and my teddy bear.

Yeah, that's kind of what I do. I will sure try to make your tailgate at least once this year, but I'm constantly late for gate. Especially since it's earlier than it used to be!

I'm with Alastair... I ususally stay to the very end (unless I really need to leave early) and then hang out at my vehicle or someone elses and just watch the traffic, BS, and have some after faire fun.

I'll be taking a slightly different route this year, though... (long story). I'll bet it will be a different route... what with coming from England and all. Hope all is well over there and tell the bum I said hello. See ya soon!
