I posted this in another thread, but figured I'd start this one here just for safekeeping. Bumped into Sinnius Vice (aka Tony Guida) as he was leaving Will and Flo's wedding on Sunday and we had a nice chat. He's a lovely man and both Kendall and I feel that the faire would be richer for having him back as a regular cast member (or whatever you'd call it...we're still relative newbies)...Anyway...Tony said he'd love to be asked back by the management of the faire...we, unfortunately, were not attending faire when he was in circulation there (we only attended 1 faire 2 years ago and last year we were still getting our feet wet, so to speak), but from what I've seen online, he seems to have been an icon at MDRF. I asked him if we could do something to persuade the powers that be to have him back...write letters, etc. He said to feel free, but he didn't hold out much hope of success. I think it's the thing that's so engulfed our country (and world) in recent years...the political corrective Disney-ization (pardons to any and all Disney fans) that says that someone like Cardinal Sinnius Vice might prove to be too much of a controversial character to have around. However, there's a LOT of political incorrectness at faire and that's one of the things we love about it! Yes, we want to respect others and families and such, but come on! What's life without a LITTLE edginess? (speaking of that, that leads me into the whole "Pyrates' Way" stupidity!! I mean, I looked at the mag last night and PLEASE, will someone tell me why it has to be hidden UNDER the counter and why the seller's at the bookstore had to put out a little safety label warning me that it wasn't for children under a particular age? I mean, it's at the REN FAIRE for crying out loud!!...sorry, I digress....*sigh) Anyway, you folks out there who love Tony, uh, I mean, Sinnius...particularly those vets out there of MDRF...is there anything we can do? Or am I just being hopelessly optimistic? Sorry to be so lengthy...I get wordy...and BF, Kendall and I LOVE the mag! I'll be signing up for a subscription SOON!!!

Here here! I don't completely understand all the politics as to why he wouldn't be welcome but everyone should be welcomed despite the controversy. After watching what a great job he did during your wedding I don't understand what could be so controversial. Maybe filling in those silly cards that they have at the front gate with everyone writing in, what about Sinnius??? Just my two cents. Blu

I don't know, maybe it's not a big deal to folks or whatever. I think the controversy could be here's a guy who's obviously lecherous, but is a "man of the cloth" and it just may be too politically incorrect to have around, who knows? I just have been very impressed by him and know that he'd love to be brought back and think he's a great guy, so I thought I'd put it out there. Maybe the comment cards are the way to go, at least for starters. Thanks, hon! See you Saturday!

The issue is not one of "edginess" or "political correctness", but of budget. When Tony was asked about this last year, he said he was told that the faire had a flat entertainment budget, and in order to bring in new acts, some old acts would have to be let go, and he was one of them. If there were an issue with a lecherous cardinal (hard to imagine given all the things that go on at MDRF), they would simply talk to him about the makeup of the Sinnius Vice character, and he could change it or tone it down as they so desired. The comments card thing was tried last year. There were even special comments cards printed up, in the manner of the bodice blessings Sinius gives out, saying something along the lines of "Bring back Sinnius - we want our bodices blessed!", so they could be signed and stuffed into the comments box. Last year, at least, it was unsuccessful. Even so, that's the mechanism to use if you want to let management know how you feel. They do pay attention to the comments, though they may not be able or willing to grant every request.

Like I said, we're virtual newbies to the faire, so I wasn't aware of what had gone on last year in an effort to bring Sinnius back. Where I got the politcal correctness thing was from Tony himself, when I spoke to him on the day of your and Flo's wedding. I had no idea of the whole budget thingy and had pondered myself about why something like Sinnius would be not "right" for faire when so much other stuff goes on that I view as along the same sort of lines. Anyway, I will still try my best to write to management, but given the info you've just put forth about all of the efforts of last year not working, my hopes aren't as high now as they had been...darned optimism! Thanks again for the info, though! Have a great day!

The IDIOCY of them not having Sinnius has enraged a large portion of the regulars.
But unforunatley, it is a large business. No matter what a comment card says, they really don't take our considerations to heart. They do what they want.
I thought they should have had a year without a King in respect to Bill, but business prevailed.
I'll pony up and pay, but be disgrunteled inside...
