Does it bug you that MDRF raised its fairever pricing? Majorchaos thinks it's been the same $70 price for at least six years. . .wasn't it due for a raise?
What if Beer & Cider prices go up too. . .will that deter you from drinking? How 'bout food price increases?
I'm not saying those prices are increasing. . .but what if?

Personally, been going for, WOW this is my 12th season, the even dozen! Anyway, I think the hike is fine. 80$ for 19 days breaks down to a little over 4 bucks.
I imagine all the money we crap away over the year, and I find that if you did not take food and drink, or random purchases, and were entertained at the RF for about 10 hours a day, further brakes down into .42 cents an hour. Trust me some of the discussions I've had at the MDRF are priceless.
I am always amazed at people, FRIENDS of mine that complain they can't afford to go to faire, then piss away money on all sorts of things. I'd go a month without cable if I had too. Hell February has nothing after the Superbowl...

Trust me some of the discussions I've had at the MDRF are priceless. Good points all. . . but this one stands out as the best. The discussions, friendships, and sometimes just meeting someone once and never seeing them again are all precious.. . . and when you compare the price with PARF. . . well. . .there's no comparison at all. Their version of faireever was over $120 last season!

I guess a one dollar hike for an individual ticket is okay, but I've seen it slowly creeping up over the years. In 1993 I believe admission was only $12.95, (or it might have been $14.95, I'm not sure.) A $10 increase on fairevers is a little surprising, but it's still an amazing deal when you do the math. We should be thankful we're not as expensive as PARF, (yet). I don't drink alcohol at faire so those prices won't affect me. If food goes up, as long as it isn't too outrageous it should be okay. I may have to budget more carefully, because for me, grabbing a bite to eat at fest. isn't just an afterthought, it's part of the experience. I try to sample different foods each time I go. I still think our food prices are pretty decent for some items considering what you get. Example-big turkey leg for $4 or the bread bowl soup $5 (?), and the sodas and water for a $1. You probably pay more than that for a hot dog and soda at a ball game. Hope prices don't get too crazy, I need to budget carefully as it is.

I think we were all surprised when everything went up last year but not the admission. Even more I think that a dollar per day (adults were $17 last year) or $10 for the season pass (it was $70) it not an outrageous increase. Had they gone to $20 or more for the admission or $100 for thhe season pass may be. I agree with you that , for both Sir Dragon and myself, there is NO comparison between PARF and MDRF . They do have two types of season pass the royal @$160 ($140 before 12/31/06) and the season @$90 ($70 before 12/31) Their adult tix is $26.95 (MDRF $18) and their two day is $39 (MDRF $28). If you think you willl be at PARF two days you might consider getting a two day pass as their return another day is $18.95 which added to the $26.95 would cost you $45.87 for two days

I'm not at all upset over the price rise. Its really been due. I just hope the management uses the extra revenue wisely is all.
One thing I would like to see though is like PARF does with their season passes and have it available at a discount, maybe $60 or $70 instead of $80 if you buy it early. I'd bet you'd get more people buying season passes if they did that. Just my 2 pence.

Like several others here, I travel to 6 to 10 different faires per year and can say that ours is still one of the least expensive around. Regardless of cost, I would still go ... you cant put a price tag on a great time with your friends. Faire is therapy! And I need plenty of it!

$80 is still well worth it to me. I didn't realize how expensive PA was until some of you compared the prices. I'll be going to PA this year, but really how does it compare with Maryland's? From what I've heard Maryland has nicer grounds and better shopping. Maryland is also a more expensive area than PA. Hmmm...

I'm fine with paying $80. There's an SF/F convention in Atlanta every year over Labor Day for which the ticket is about $80 and that's only for three days or so. Faire is 19 days. And I only have to go four or five times to make it worth it to get my money's worth, as it were. I don't really care, personally, about the alcohol prices as I really don't drink (and I remember being shocked to see that soft drinks were $1 apiece, I would have expected them to be higher {a restaurant charges almost $2, after all}, though I'd hope they'd stay that low). I don't really want to hear about the griping from all my mead/wine/beer/cider loving friends though. Food prices are pretty good, as well. I think, though, if they went up much more, I'd have to start carrying sandwiches or something for lunch as I wouldn't be able to buy lunch and/or dinner every day then. Or cut back on my purchasing of shiny things. Something like that. Hee. And now, thinking about Faire food and being hungry already, I'm fantasizing about Mac-n-cheese onna stick. Crap.

The biggest difference between MD and PA is that the pathways at PA are concrete. They have flushies, and their site is on the side of a hill. I really like the fact that there is a Hampton Inn right accross the street. A good faire, but MD is much better. We go once or twice a year.

I like PARF but wouldn't want to go there every weekend as I feel that MDRF is far better ambiance and over all just more enjoyable than PARF. They do have some real good prices on things up there though as I got a real nice pirate belt for $30 and probably would have spent like $60 at MDRF for the same.

Honestly, $80 is still a STEAL!!! and I don't even want to sit down and figure out how much money I threw away at faire last year ~ oh but I know they were happy to have me
I've never been to another faire, don't know if I will, but $80 is still a small price to pay for the amount of great time n' fun I had last season...
And you can't get SQUAT to drink for a buck or anything to eat for $5 at a MLB, NHL or NFL event... we are LUCKY!!
Oh and if the price setters are reading this... Oh my gosh.. I can't afford it.. How am I going to be able to manage!?!?! ;D

I agree with Jennifer on all the points she made! lol Keep the alcoholic drink prices where they are now. If they go higher than they are now, either tips suffer, or I am not partaking of as much of that fine ale. Both of those options bother me, as I love to tip me favorite bartenders, and I want me ale! LOL

Raise the price of beer? Noooooooooooo! I would hate to change my outfit to a hunch-back so I could carry a pony keg or camelback of beer around.

Of course the ladies could get medieval breast augmentations ~ wine skins full of favorite drink ;D
As the day wore on, corsets would have to be adjusted accordingly

I don't have a problem with the $10 fairever pass price increase...it was well worth it to us, however was a REAL bummer that Kendall lost his pass on our 3rd (wedding at that!) weekend there!...so he had to buy another one...wish they had some sort of computer system where his pass could be verified coordinating with an i.d. of some sort so another one wouldn't have to be purchased...but it was our bad, so I guess we need to pay the piper!
As far as PARF...well, never have been, but really don't have a desire to go. Sorry fans of PARF, but I CANNOT see myself escaping into a Renaissance fantasy world of paved over lanes, outrageous prices, and concrete countryside. I have a friend who works at MDRF who was telling me about PARF at the beginning of this year's Ren season...hot asphalt, exorbitant prices, and more or less of a Disneyland type feel than anything authentically Renaissance...sure, the Hampton Inn might be CONVENIENT, but it just seems like...I don't know...too pre-fab? I know that they didn't really have ye olde port-o-potties and ATMs during the renaissance...and that we wouldn't REALLY want it to be TOTALLY authentic (oh yes, I am hankering for a walk through mud and sewage laden pathws...ewww!)...but I just can't get into the whole asphalt/concrete jungle thing...and I know, I know...I have NO idea of what I'm speaking...Ren season to me is a TOTAL escape and like Scotsman said, it IS therapy for both Kendall and me...I wanna escape reality as much as possible...the more authentic the better...for me (and Kendall) it's MDRF all the WAY!! WHOO!!
