OK. . .maybe I'm exagerating but it does bring up a good point. At what cost per gallon do you decide not to go to MDRF because of not just what goes in your tank but the inevitable raise of prices in general?
Do you skip a season of festival if gas is $8.00 a gallon and cider is also $8 a cup?
As of today, The Netherlands are paying $6.90 a gallon. . . I have no idea what the cider price is.
Nigeria is .19/gallon.

But if you go to MDRF and just stay -- camp out -- maybe that would be more cost effective. Or car pool? Charter a bus? I can't imagine not going, but you've got a point about collateral damage -- increased cost of food & drink. Maybe some vendors don't come, and those that do charge more.
The Europeans have had relatively high gas prices for years. That's why they drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and make excellent use of public transportation. But then, they're closer together geographically, so public transportation can work. I'm not sure how those of us on this side of "the pond" will handle these higher prices. And I can't fit all my faire gear in those tiny European cars. There's barely room for my vente vanilla latte in the cup holder.

its worth going-no matter how much the cost is, that is why i will be making my garb instead of buying it to cut down the cost, i will probably spend more money on ale and mead, now that i will be 21 for this years faire!!!

Hmmm, skip faire and ale? NEVER! I would just have to cut back on other things, like food, medicine, laundry detergent, deodorant, toothpaste ... to name a few! I may smell like crap, but I'll be at faire with an ale in my hand!

Sam and I were discussing this very matter yesterday... We may not have the opportunities to eat every day, or drink as much as we would like, but we'll be at faire!!!

Like everybody else here, I can't imagine not going to MDRF...neither can Kendall. We LIVE for the end of August to arrive...although we might have a long weekend trip here or there on occasion, we only take one REAL vacation a year (right now it's Key West in February) and then there's MDRF...already, we'd probably do a bit more traveling if we didn't have 9 weekends (if we're lucky) of driving to faire and back (not to mention lodging costs)...as it is, we're both more than happy to have MDRF take top priority over other outings. As far as cutting back on the ale...well, we might have to do that a bit this year anyway, due to Kendall's recent bout with gout (hey, I rhymed!)....and, of course, we wouldn't be happy about a price increase...but we'll do what we have to do...maybe I'll take in my calories via ale instead of food or maybe I'll forego buying any new garb this season (I don't sew!)...we'll pinch our pennies here and there and still make it work.

There is very little that would keep me from going to faire. Luckily I have a smaller car this year and it looks like I may get a raise at work so I will have money for ale and food and not have to call in favors for the cider. Plus the fact that they don't charge for parking helps, if I had to pay for the gas, pay for parking, and then pay to get into faire it may get a little out of hand as far as cost. But what is money when you have the love and the smell of scotsman and all of your friends, that is truley priceless.

Smell of Scotsman ... sounds like a horrid cologne! Or we can do like one of those AXE commercials but instead of beautiful woman all over me, we could have a herd of sheep!
I sure hope she meant the cigars ...

I sure hope she meant the cigars ... Well if you don't wear deodorant it will be the lovely odor of Scotsman, the cigars don't stink. ;D I love the ad idea, and I do agree I think it would be better without the sheep, of course some people do love wildlife.....
