With Scottish, Irish, AND Celtic weekends this season . . . I think it's a bit over-done on the Celtic theme! A couple of us sat down and discussed some other themed weekends and since the Renaissance effected much more than just England, why not have:
1) Italian Weekend 2) French Weekend 3) Spanish Weekend
The ethnic diversity might bring in visitors who might never come to faire otherwise!

Well, we are in England, after all. Much as Copernicus would like to see a Polish Weekend, I think that the English themes (and of course Oktoberfest for Princess Anne of Cleves) are more consistent. And do you remember the firestorm of criticism the year that the Celtic themes were all combined in one Celtic Weekend? Hence the separate Irish and Scottish Weekends. The third weekend is very specifically "Celtic Music" weekend, celebrating the fact that we were able to schedule four major musical groups (BROTHER, Seven Nations, Barleyjuice, and Maidens IV) Any one of these groups would easily command two to three times our small ticket price for a concert.

We don't get so much as a pasties booth!

Don't remember any Spanish weekend when Catherine of Aragon was Queen. . . just sayin' Actually, every weekend is Spanish Weekend this season, at least from 2 - 3:20 PM at the Globe Theatre where we are presenting Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote, Book 2. Our production is in the style of the Golden Age of Spanish Theater, with Commedia, Masque, and an all-star ensemble cast!

A couple of us sat down and discussed some other themed weekends and since the Renaissance effected much more than just England, why not have: 1) Italian Weekend With Columbina in charge? I'll be there, but knowing the Interpreters repertoire I think I need to keep the kids locked up at home.
