Great day at faire! We loved BROTHER . . .they rocked the whole show at faire today. . .disappointed at 7 Nations. . . took 'em a half hour to warm up and get the sound just right. . . then the sound wasn't all that.

It was definitely the not-to-miss weekend of the Festival, imho.
Yep - took Seven Nations a while to try to work out the sound problem they were having, but we loved their music better than Brother. That fiddle player is incredible. Brother was very cool and genuinely unique. But with only 3 in the band, the depth of sound, particularly vocals, was lacking a bit. I expected a bigger crowd for Brother, but the 1 pm show was rather sparse. I have to say that the drummer in Brother was quite amazing.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm not particularly fond of the "HFStival" feel of the faire when these bands come in wearing jeans and t-shirts, playing music with instrumentation and PA systems so loud that one's immediate reaction is to assume that a vendor left his boom box playing backstage. That said, I loved the these same bands at pub sing, performing with minimal equipment (which didn't seem to affect the energy level of their performance at all). Seven Nations only had two musicians total for their pub sing performance, and they still kicked some serious ass. Hats off to them as well for sticking around to fill in at Sunday's pub sing. The violinist was made for pub sing - great sense of humor, interacted well with the audience and other performers, and mother of Jesus can he play.
