This past Sunday (10/03) my husband and I went to the PARF. It was our first time at any Ren event. We enjoyed ourselves, but we spent (IMO) far too much time wandering semi-aimlessly because we were a bit overwhelmed (not in a bad way, just a wow way) and hadn't been quite sure of what we were walking into.
We were hoping to go to the MDRF before it closes. To avoid being so overwhelmed this time, and now that we have a tiny bit of experience, I was hoping someone could tell me what is different about the MDRF vs. the PARF. Thank you, and pardon if this thread is in the wrong place.

Thank you, and pardon if this thread is in the wrong place. Danielle I wrote a rather detailed comparison of PARF vs MDRF vs CRF vs VARF here (down near the bottom of the page, post #23). Thumbnail of the extract of the summary of the Readers Digest version - MDRF is more "open", much wider lanes, no paving, fewer hills. MDRF has pubs with entertainment, as opposed to drink here, watch show over there. I've noticed more musical acts at MDRF, plus not quite as much emphasis on dialect and more willingness to use anachronisms (though that might be a function of what shows I watch at each venue). Although MDRF doesn't rely quite so much on the "standard" acts that travel from faire to faire, that won't matter much to someone who hasn't been to a lot of faires. I always recommend the Pyrates Royale and the O'Danny Girls to any newcomers to MDRF. I've seen few other musical groups who work Dire Straits or CSN into their sea shanties, or the Imperial March from Star Wars into a standard wench/pub song. I (and many others) also consider Pub Sing to be a don't miss show. Since much of this is impossible to describe, I'll provide some samples: O'Danny Girls performing Seven Drunken Nights as a rap song.Pyrates Royale performing Amazing Gilligan.Pub Sing: Muppet Show Opening. There's a lot of the same kinds of shows: juggling, swordfighting, magic, jousting. MDRF has a much more woodsy feeling that PARF, which is more like a city park. Expect to be "wow overwhelmed" again (especially if you don't make it out until the last day).
