what is happening to the Maryland Festival? So many changes this year. I ran into a girl that has been making wool capes for them for years and she told me that she has been informed her services are no longer needed. She also indicated that they have changed hands. Any truth to the rumor?
I've been going to the faire for you 20 years, only started wearing garb about 5 years ago and seem concern about all the changes all at once.

what is happening to the Maryland Festival? So many changes this year. I ran into a girl that has been making wool capes for them for years and she told me that she has been informed her services are no longer needed. She also indicated that they have changed hands. Any truth to the rumor? I've been going to the faire for you 20 years, only started wearing garb about 5 years ago and seem concern about all the changes all at once. First, there are not "so many changes this year." The show (meaning the entertainment, the cast, and so forth) changes every year. Every year, some of the music and variety acts are changed, to keep the overall show fresh. And acts cycled out will likely return the following year or so. You should look at the official web page to see the new acts and the returning acts (this is currently being updated but is partially finished and available to read, see www.rennfest.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=26.) In entertainment, variety and freshness are essential, or things get stale and die. And this Festival has been, over the past several years, doing a terrific job giving new, young talent a place to showcase and develop their acts. Where would Renaissance Festivals be without the young blood? The Festival did not "change hands" and is hard at work right now putting together an amazing Faire to celebrate its 35th season. As for your friend, if she was making capes, she probably works for one of the vendors. The vendors are independents who own their own booths and are not directly employees of the Festival. If she was fired, it was between her and the vendor for whom she worked. And temporary employees of vendors are not reliable sources of actual information. Please don't assume anything about unsubstantiated rumors.

Sorry didn't mean to cause a stir. I always consider this a good site to debunk rumors. When I heard they changed hands from what I consider an extremely reliable source, I wanted to ask and figured that would explain the entertainment changes, ticketing changes and themed weekend changes. Which to me, seemed to be several changes significant changes from an organization that has been very reliable and stable.
Again sorry asked, perhaps I should refrain from coming to this site.

Sorry didn't mean to cause a stir. I always consider this a good site to debunk rumors. When it comes to the rabid love of MDRF from folks who treat the subject as though their life depended on its existence, it doesn't take much to cause a "stir." LOL Out of this love and devotion for experiences and memories of past seasons is grown the want for consistency. "Fear of Change" is one of the worst Rennie vices, I think. I'm glad you think this is a good site to debunk rumors, even from "reliable" sources. With the computer in front of me all day, I search out any and all info regarding MDRF, its cast, and ensemble vendors, entertainers, and guests. If there is doubt about anything to do with MDRF, I will often shoot off an email to mgmt to verify the information (or debunk it). We maintain our site at the highest levels which is why we've been around for 10 years and grab our own headlines sometimes. When I heard they changed hands from what I consider an extremely reliable source, I wanted to ask and figured that would explain the entertainment changes, ticketing changes and themed weekend changes. Which to me, seemed to be several changes significant changes from an organization that has been very reliable and stable. MDRF, in all its forms, changes significantly every season. Sometimes its a few small steps and sometimes, like this coming season, there are big changes. . . it's a natural evolution of business. For 35 years there have been years more successful than others, with higher quality than others, and some changes only last a season. Again sorry asked, perhaps I should refrain from coming to this site. Feel free to come back and ask away, but realize, as I've pointed out earlier, that there are folks that take the debunking of rumors seriously and although you might consider their responses terse, they come from the heart. . .protecting something they love very much.

Thank you, appreciate the information and concern. Perhaps my problem is I've never really noticed many changes because I've never watched their site as much as I have this year. I didn't know about the themed weekends until friends from PA, emailed me that they probably won't coming down this year because there is no pirate weekend, their kids loved that weekend. I have no problem with changes. Changes in entertainment are great. I mean I know the Hey Nunnie Nunnie and London Broil shows by heart. So that will give me something new to explore and then when I come with friends I can tell them the must see shows. I too have a passion for the Festival that has grown over the years. I've made over 26 sets of garb for family and friends over the last 5 years. We kinda adopted ourselves as the French Royal Family (my mom's family was from France). By doing this we are able to become someone else from a different time for a day and escape the stress and into friendship, fun and just one hell of good time. I never intend to offend anyone but rather try to find out if rumors are true before I spread them. It's hard to believe that in 2.5 months the season will start.
