A couple of mine are McCalls 3282 which is a full 1530's tudor gown. It needs some editting to be historically accurate but don't they all? I used it, with heavy editting, to make all my tudor styled gowns. Another one I love and use over and over is Simplicities 8735. It's their Italian gown. I used it to make the Just Breathe gown after drafting out the darts and other "modern" sewing inventions. Does anyone else have a pattern they love to use?

I personally have not tried this one ..... have you ever used the duct tape method of forming a bodice pattern? I've only read the instructions but want to try it out. Where will you be this Sunday? I'm looking forward to meeting you and talking "garb"!

Jumping in on this conversation but the duct tape, bodice method is VERY good, and really easy...I just had a friend wrap me in gauze or binding wrap and then wrap the duct tape around as tight as you want it to be and exactly where you want it fit on your hips, etc and then just either cut it up the side or back and you have the perfect fit... just fyi.. cheers, Magpie

duct tape sounds like a wonderful idea i'm going to have to try that.
i had to run to the fabric store cos i ran out of bias tape last night and i ended up with MORE fabric (clearance table, of course!), two new patterns (on sale 50% off!) and a ton of other stuff. I hate it when i go for ONE Item thats like under $2 and end up spending $50! oy. haha

It's also a useful method for making a "my double" for fitting clothing. Although, the "Anne Boylen" model (aka a pillow) works well enough for me to see how well something will look for the most part.
For patterns I've hand drafted, I love circle skirts. They are super simple to make and look great. All my chemises are my own patterns as well. :-)

you know ladies (and gents) we really should plan a stitch and pregnant dog sometime after faire ends. Sounds like we have many seamstresses in the house and it would be great to get together, b.s. and sew together. Maybe swap fabric, unused patterns etc.
Just a thought for after faire.

This is the first year I've even used a commercial pattern. All of my previous garb has been done using the do-it-yourself patterns found at the Elizibethan Costuming Page. I purchased Dashing Doublets to make new garb for hubby and son. So far so good, still have to get the actual men here to do the final fittings but I really liked it! Oh, and speaking of Duct Tape Doubles. I can personally tell you that they are fantastic!! I did my own this year. (yep, all by my lonesome, that was an experience I'll not repeat!!) and don't know how I ever got along without it!! I did make a duct tape pattern for the very first bodice I made myself and it does work rather well, had to make several adjustments though, the custom corset pattern generator was much easier!
