Right now, I'm thinking Novemeber? Maybe even right after Thanksgiving so we can get into the "Christmas/Hanukkah/Winter" holiday spirt and have a very good excuse to go spend money? Gettsyburg and New Oxford are right next to each other. They both have garb and antiques, plus Gettsyburg has a pub that we can leave the guys at if need be. :-) Not that guys aren't welcome to come Antiquing and Garb Shopping.

Is that the really cool pub that is kind of in a basement with all of the memorabilia from "Gettysburg" in the display cases? Right now, I'm thinking Novemeber? oh a ghost tour....that would be fun!
I'm not sure if it's the same pub. I just remember the gorgeous stained glass and eatting lots of food and then going next door to buy a bunch of yummy wine.
So antiquing, garbbing (hehe, I invented a new word!), pubbing, and Ghost Hunting; sounds like a good day to me!

sestree, you were the lovely lady with the cool black fan on sunday, yes? just trying to place names and faces now that season has started Sunday ... I had on a blue patterned fantasia bodice, black skirt and a leather cavalier from Holy Cow. I did have a new black feather fan due to necessity (I lost my poor fabric fan between the gate show and just inside). Lovely? thank you for the compliment but that makes me look around to see if you were talking about someobody else ;D

I think it would be best if those of us from the south and east (and west?) all carpool for the ease of the drive. If you aren't allergic to dogs, anyone is welcome to come with me. (I often have Ginsie in my car and she sheds somewhat. I can never get all her hair up!) I have enough room, comfortably, for three other people, possibly four, plus our pilliagings. I'm on the MD side of the Potmac River, but it's like a five minute drive to my house from American Legion Bridge.
As for a date: Dec 3 or 4? That's a Sat and Sun for those that don't wanna look. :-) I'm open to other dates but I remembered I'm going up to NY for turkey day.

I think it would be best if those of us from the south and east (and west?) all carpool for the ease of the drive. Since I usually have a car full myself (Granny, Pyllgrum, the kids sometimes) I'll just have to get with you before the date and figure a meeting place or convoy it up there or something. We got time.

I know this is WAY into the future for most of us but Dec 3? What about meeting up in Rockville since it's on the way up for most of us, I think? Or we can just meet up there in Gettsyburg. I hear they have a big old cornfield that's pretty recognizable. :-D

It's great..so much history and if you are a freak like me into superstition and ghost stories it is like THE place to go. It is called the most haunted placce in america. ;D Sounds like a fun trip! Up here in Elkton at historic Elk Landing (5 minutes from my house) every fall they have ghost tours. There are garbed guides that take you on tours of the colonial manor house on the shores of the Elk River. At dusk they take you on a tour of the river bank and tell ghost stories about how the citizens of Elkton fought off the british ships and prevented Elkton from burning during the war of 1812. I heard that last year just as they were starting the ghost walk, a very eerie (but way cool) fog rolled in to add to the ambiance. I've never done it myself, but I think I'll have to do it this year!

Another place I've heard about up here but have never been to before is Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island on the Delaware River. I've heard that they do ghost tours and it is supposed to be a very haunted location. Check out their websites: www.elklanding.orgwww.del.net/org/fort/history1.htm

Sounds like a lot of fun, Doug (my husband) and I have been talking about visiting Gettysburg anyway, he's a big civil war buff and I'm a big garb buff ;D so what could be better than to satisfy two loves and do so in such great company?
Soooooooooooo.... if the Navy cooperates, count us in! Not sure what kind of room we'll have as far as carpooling goes but if we take the car I'm sure we can make room for at least one more! Providing of course that said individual doesn't mind sharing the backseat with a cooler?

oooo... depending what I am doing (and of course getting a sitter) I may invite myself along too (newbie here - haven't met anyone yet)...
I love Gettysburg and I know mom (the seamstress in the family- the trait seems to have skipped my siblings and I and gone to the grandchildren) got the material for my old garb there- and my dad's reenacting material there..
Maybe just maybe if I find something and feel brave- I will try to make the kids some garb...

Okay, so day trip (I'm thinking 10 to whenever) on Dec 3 to gettysburg/new oxford. We will go garb shopping, antiquing, pubing, and ghost hunting. (I figure we'll go to the pub first and then we might see some "ghosts" on the ghost hunt, lol) I know I want to hit Abraham's Lady since they tend to have the sewing supplies (metal boning! woohoo!) but I'm thinking maybe more of a slow caravan free for all? Stop where ever we want to until the ghost hunt when we run around in the corn field and look for the ghosts of baseball...err...confederate and union soldiers?
