Hello all, This is coming early and little news is available, but I am posting this to pre-empt the rumor mill. Dan the Master Joyner, furniture artist at MDRF, booth located next to the Dragon Inn, near the joust, was injured in an auto accident at the faire entrance this morning. The most recent news is that he is stable and aware, but the injuries were bad. I arrived at faire to see his vehicle and the emergency crews, and the helicopter taking him out. His truck was badly damaged and Dan had gotten some bad news about damage to his home which is in New Orleans, to add insult to injury. So stay tuned for info and if there will be a donations drive. We don't know much, but please keep him in your thoughts. As I said, this is very early, so please be patient for news. The faire site was buzzing like a beehive and as soon as we know something, it will be past on. Of course, this is the weekend to buy that new wooden tankard. Much Peace, Shane Odom Masks by Miscellaneous Oddiments and Flying Rainbow Bubblewands.

as taken from LJ:
This is from Holly who works for Dan.
Request.... Dan is doing as well as he can be...he NEEDS to rest QUIETLY for a while so please wait a few days before calling and/or visiting.
Please remember that he is not a very social being for the most part, other than faire, and this morning his son also told me the same of what I long ago noticed so PLEASE think of HIM first before what you may want to do and/or think is best for him!!
I have also spoken with Dan personally and he sounds incedibly exhausted, rightfully so, so please THINK about what he needs most! He is also incredibly touched AND a bit overwhelmed by the inquiries and concerns. He asked me to relay thanks to those who inquire and you can personally chat with him once he returns to Faire.
Also, please respectfully request the same from others that may inquire about his condition, etc.
THANK YOU!!

Hello all, I just came from the site and was speaking with Glen, his son, and Sallie, who is helping with much of this. I will second what was said about contacting Dan himself and will cross post this from AFR. I was asked by them to pass on this info and the address for donations, so here goes:
Hey there, Dan is doing much better. The word is multiple broken ribs, damage to his legs but what is unclear yet, and a couple of catscans are showing problems and some bleeding but still look good. HOWEVER, like many Ren Faire Craftsmen, Dan has NO INSURANCE TO SPEAK OF and if today's catscan shows that he is stable, he will be sent out of the hospital. Housing is being found for him and his son is in from Cali and his staff is coming forward to help with the Booth. From what I understand, Dan was asking for his woodcarving and gold-leafing tools today! Despite the swollen eyes. Additionally, no real news is available on Dan's home in the New Orleans area, but as everyone knows, the news will most likely be bad. So, to help with his massive and overwhelming medical bills, vehicle (oh boy was it totalled!) and perhaps studio repairs, donations are being immediately accepted in his name. This is being handled by his friends and family and the address is MDRF's box. Checks and money orders are welcome, please don't send cash through the mail. If you are interested in helping in other ways, please start by intially contacting me through email. Sincerely, Shane Odom Miscellaneous Oddiments LLC

A Request from Dan's son, Glen [Aug. 31st, 2005|10:42 am] For those of you who know Dan well enough and may speak with him, PLEASE DO NOT under ANY circumstances mention New Orleans for ANY reason. There is no reason that anyone should in Dan's current condition. Please spread the word, Glen is quite serious with this request for very good reason. Thank you!!!
