We had to take Maggie to emergency surgery last night, she swallowed a cork and it was jammed in her intestine. It was a bit touch-n-go late into the evening but she seems OK now and is resting. Needless to say, it's questionable whether we'll be able to make it to the So. MD Celtic Fest tomorrow.

With all the corks that Maggie and I have pulled together...(sigh)...you know I love her, and have her in my thoughts...

Just got back from visiting our Maggie. She looks exhausted and her front legs are shaved from the IVs and her belly shaved for the surgery. The cut looks about 50% of her full length, but she's not a big dog.
The doctors say she'd doing really well and should be home sometime this weekend if everything continues to look well.
Lizzie is driving me nuts (I know, short trip, pack light) and I can tell she misses her big sister.

I'm sorry to hear about lil Maggie -- it serves as a reminder that they will eat nearly anything you wish they wouldn't. First I ever heard of a dog eating a cork though.
Ya know - next time just pour her the glass don't let her sniff the cork (sorry bad taste but what went through my mind at the time)

Ya know - next time just pour her the glass don't let her sniff the cork LOL. . . actually. . . she's been chewing on wine corks since she was a puppy. . .y'know the cheap-o wine with the rubber-esque corks. . . she's just kinda' teethed on them before. I think with the addition of the new puppy Lizzie, she musta' got protective of an especially tasty one and bit it in half. Vet said it was half a cork they found. . .small enough to swallow but big enough to plug. Needless to say, Lizzie and I scrounged up all the corks in the yard and the house. . . uh. . . should I tell you we found 26.3875 of them? We drink a lot of cheap-o wine apparently. . . well except for the one Maggie got the cork from. . .that one bottle will cost in excess of $3,000 for surgery and all. But on the upside, Cyn just got back from evening hospital visits and our pup is happy and tail wagging and wants to come home. No word of when that'll happen, so I guess we WILL miss you all at the SM Celtic Fest tomorrow.

Maggie came home on Sunday afternoon. She's still a wee bit sore, but a bit of pain medicine twice a day has helped. The vet gave us the cork as a souvenier and I've not taken a good look at it but I want to find out what winery the stuff came from.
Of course, I'll be baking a shadow box with a picture of Maggie, a label of the wine, the actual cork and how much the bottle of wine "really" cost! LOL
Anyway, the news is that she's doing well and mending nicely.
Thank you to everyone for keeping her in your thoughts.
