Let's all gather outside the main gate at 1130 for a photograph of our HUGE group with all the brand new faces! Last year we tried at 2 pm and folks (like me) ended up forgetting about it and were already too involved in good conversations and.. uh. . . ale. to bother! LOL
So this year, let's take a group photo at 1130 and be done with it! Then we can spend the rest of the day chatting up our new friends and sharing all of our favorite MDRF stories while creating new ones!
We'd like to shoot it on Saturday AND Sunday at the same time so come out for one or both! Then we'll start putting names to faces like we did last year and upload a version for everyone to see just who is who!
We have to move quickly on the photo on Saturday, as Captain Chelle of our own Polly Dodger pirate ship is toasting the season and we all want to be involved with that too!
See you all then!

It looks like our first photos of the year will be THE way for us all to meet new friends and greet the old ones. It might be early but I'm going to go ahead and get over to the festival grounds and wait. This way I'll get the good spot across from the privvies.
So please excuse me if I smell a bit "funky" at festival. . . living in a car for 8 days will do that.

Excellent! I can see the encampment now...armorers busy...carpenters asssembling the towers...our fellow knights kneeling in vigilant prayer before scaling the walls...no, wait that was Jerusalem...
I'll have some cider...and fritters ready...

Why have it outside the gate? We've been waiting for 33 weeks just to get in!
It's bloody hot, there's no shade at all, I can't take m' beer, and it's a hike from anywhere I'm likely to be on opening day.
Why not treat the picture as more of a meet and greet? Have it somewhere people are going to congregate anyway, where people will be happy to stand about and talk both before and after the pic. The stag statue at the White Hart is certainly no less photogenic a place than the front gate. Half of us will be there anyway and it's a great place to catch up with old [sic] fiends and make new ones.
Instead of- "Hi!- who're you?- hold sill- are we done yet?- bye, I'm going back in!" Make it less convenient for people and you'll have fewer people in the pic....

With the sole exception/difficulty of finding a place inside faire where the group won't obstruct traffic, I think this is an excellent idea!

With the sole exception/difficulty of finding a place inside faire where the group won't obstruct traffic, I think this is an excellent idea! There's already several meet-n-greets going on. . even our own dear Cap'n is having a toast at noon so why have another just to have one? Having it near the White Hart is always obtrusive to both entertainment and guests of the festival. (especially when screaming "hey, scootch in, I have to back up more"). . . If you look at last year's photo (in the slide bar), we had to step back quite a few yards to get everyone into the shot. . . trying to organize that inside the festival without people walking between the photographer and the group is all but impossible. Back when we were 6 or 12 folks it was easier to set up. . . we're a huge gaggle of rennies now. Also, outside the gate is usually empty after the gate opens and makes for a much nicer photo opportunity. (hey, it's all about the art value) Plus we can't please everyone as to where to shoot the photo. Since this worked last season, I think we should stick to this idea. . .plus festival's only a week away, to change locations will just confuse folks. (IMHO)

Hi! Being new to FoMDRF (though not to faire - I've been going for eighteen years) would it be ok for me to be in the photo? Or just to come out and meet you all? I'd really like to say hi, at least.

Hail, Niamh, and welcome to our boards. You are more than welcome in our picture...you're here, arent yuh? Look for any of us at the usual places (under the trees during opening, by the lions at picture time, at the White Hart or the Dragon, or just staggering around the site). We're glad your'e with us! Hi everyone! I just joined-- and so that means I just found out about the group photo and the opportunity to meet you all-- several hours post-faire! Oh well. I hope I get to meet you all real soon. How do I recognize everyone?? I was a wee bit scrambled anyway-- brought me two young daughters (2 1/2 yrs and 7 mos.), and with a mead (or 2) in me, well... everyone looked lovely, so... probably would have been a bit overwhelming! But I can't wait to become more a part of the group! Greetings to you all! What a blissful day it was!!!

Jules , Glad you made it on Saturday, sorry I missed ya, I would have loved to have seen Ava, I am sure she had a blast. Oh well. I hope I get to meet you all real soon. How do I recognize everyone?? I know that I found Amras, Black Fox and a few others at the White Hart tavern and Jenn and I usually float between the Dragon and the White Hart when we aren't chasing the eye candy around. Hope you can make it out again this season, there are lots here who have young kids and are young at heart and so Ava and Isabella would definitely have some play friends.

Great pic!! I'm so sorry I missed both photo ops... the first day was due to vast quantities of meade and cider and the second day I didn't get to the fest until after 1 with child in tow.
Looking forward to see you all in the coming weeks....
