THIS SATURDAY [at MDRF]- Mask Day- everyone come masked!
Please spread the word.
"Masks for festive occasions: Ludicrous, grotesque, or superficially horrible, festival masks are usually conducive to good-natured license, release from inhibitions, and ribaldry. The disguise is assumed to create a momentary, amusing character, often resulting in humorous confusions, or to achieve anonymity for the prankster or ribald reveler. Throughout contemporary Europe and Latin America, masks are associated with folk festivals, especially those generated by seasonal changes or marking the beginning and end of the year. "
" In court life, masks become pragmatic: there are things to do, people to see, and perhaps you might not want others to know what deals you were cutting. Additionally, a servant can be mistaken for a nobleman - or vice versa, helping with intrigues. As a result of the concealment of identity, however, people naturally find themselves taking advantage of the situation. Gambling, flirting, backstabbing goes on all day and night when protected by a mask."
If you need masks, there are 2 mask makers on site, if you want to check out their work before you get there, here are their sites:
