Jack Rackham has left the White Hart for good. Tim Shaw, who played the character both with the Pyrates Royale (founding member) and without, has left his asst. entertainment director position and in doing so has left a somewhat empty presence upon the White Hart's stage at PubSing.
What would you like to see happen?
A totally new PubSing experience? A new Jack Rackham/EmCee? Might the King take over the responsibilities?
What say ye?

No one can replace Jack! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and succeed him. Seriously, I am confidant a proper replacement will come along.

I'm so sad that Jack is gone!!! It will take some getting used to, we all loved his acerbic charm and whoever replaces him will just seem insulting if he picks up where Jack left off. I think they should go in a totally different direction for the new host of Pubsing.

We don't even know. Randy (fellow Pub Sing Wench) won't be back and I have another obligation in cast this year. I really don't think anyone knows. Looks like we'll all find out opening day. Jack/Tim will definitely be missed though.

Zack could take over, but even then it wouldn't be quite right. Having the King take over could go bad very fast. I see PG-13 turning into R before the first 15 minutes are over.

Okay then lets make Fletcher do it. It's not like the Pyrates have to go far in order to get to the stage.

Okay, so everybody's gonna think I'm a total jerk...but after 3 years of faire (this'll be my 4th), we have yet to attend Pub Sing! Yes, I know, I know...like Jenn, I was always finding myself over at the Dragon with the Rogues...however, given the changes with PubSing, maybe it won't be so hard for us to handle the new version of such, as we won't have a frame of reference to compare with.

From the IWG 42 board (wife is a member). . . Carolyn didn't send this to me directly which is how I prefer to post "facts" from MDRF but the IWG 42 wenches are usually very reliable so I feel safe posting information from them. Hello All- We here at MDRF are busily planning for the upcoming season. Rehearsal for the acting company begins in three weeks, and I am currently finishing up contracting, writing scripts, and doing special events and schedules.
Lots of rumors are flying, and while in one way they are complimentary (people care enough to talk about it), I would stress that for entertainment & special events concerns - I'm the only one who knows what is going on at this moment in time, because it all starts in my brain. So if anyone else is spouting theories - they are theories. It ain't official until you read it on our website at www.rennfest.com
I will say that most of the time the reasoning behind a decision is not nearly as interesting as the rumors the bubble up to explain it. But, I would like to address a few topics of interest.
-The festival has not lost the lease, it did NOT expire on June 1, and you have no worries about a festival taking place.
- Tim Shaw (Jack Rackham) stepped down as my posteriorociate Artistic Director and performer at the end of last season to pursue other endeavors and spend his first free autumn in 25 years with family. I still talk to him frequently, and get his artistic thoughts and ideas. And I will miss him more than ya'll - because not only is he a great director & performer, but he's one of my best friends. I'm gonna be bit lonely in Revel Grove this year! And while Tim is pursuing other options, the door is open and I would be thrilled if I can convince him to share his talents with us in any capacity in future years. So, everything is happy!
-With that - yes, I have made decisions on pub sing, and all of that information will be posted in due time. I've been thinking about this all winter, and given it serious thought, because that show means a lot to a great deal of people. I am fully aware that my decisions will never please everyone, but I try to make the best decisions for the event, the performers, and the patrons. I am hoping to get a "Director's blog" posted on the website, to keep those interested informed of developments through out the summer.
-Tom Plott (Zach Rackham) is involved in the festival, and his involvement is only slightly adjusted because of his new job as Entertainment Director for Watermark Cruises in Annapolis. Yea for Tom!!
-Music. Music is one of my passions, and if I can get one more thing hammered down, I fully believe we will have the best line up of music here EVER. I am very, very excited by it.
-Acts & Musicians. The only people who understand contracting and the way it works it myself and the group/performing I am contracting with. I do get a giggle when I see explanations on why various groups are - or are not - here. Groups schedules and dynamics change year to year and quite often it is the groups themselves who cannot return (yet I always get lots of hate mail is someone is missing!). And sometimes I do have to rotate out popular acts because the first thing people say to me when they see me is "What's new this year and..... but (fill-in-blank) are returning, aren't they?" Well, it is mighty hard to bring in the new if we don't retire some long standing performers. Never an easy decision, I assure you. I appreciate everyone's interest in the show, and if you do have an entertainment or special event question, you can contact me via email through the festival website.
See you all shortly! Carolyn Spedden Artistic Director, Maryland Renaissance Festival I know someone (Staci) posted this earlier with a link to another MDRF bulletin board site, but we've found a lot of the information others have posted as fact turns out to be rumour. If such posts are put in the "rumour" section of this board, then I've got no problem with it. . .that's why that board exists. We just have to be really careful when posting stuff as "directly from management" because they usually don't give up a lot of information before MDRF starts because they want folks to be surprised. I think that's why they don't update the website until just before festival opens. . . keep all the anticipation within a few weeks of opening day so it builds the excitement factor. I kinda' like that idea. . .it works! I just got a handful of photos of the MDRF site (which seem to make it to my email inbox prior to every season) and I won't post them like we've done in previous years for just the reasons outlined above. I like to be surprised and have time to marvel at all the new things at festival, whether they be new acts, vendors, architecture, or friends. I'm sorry if I upset anyone by modifying their posts about MDRF 2007. . . but I've really got everyone's best interests at heart.

Don't congratulate me until the cast has been announced summer of '08. I'd love to, but it depends on what the powers that be have in mind.
