Just curious as if there was anything going on this weekend. We've got no plans and were wondering who's getting together for whatever. We could sit around and party or go fishing or something.
Any ideas?

hehe!! Oh you ARE a card! Silly Fox, you know that we have nothing going on down here in the sticks! We thought we might just relax on the front porch with a rum or two...*sigh* Can't wait until festival starts! Hey, wait! That IS this weekend! Gadzooks and forsoothe!! There's reservations to be made...oh wait, that's been done...fairever passes to buy...oh, done that too...and lotsa packing...best get on that one! Actually, both Kendall and I have been under the weather with some nasty allergy-induced crap...we were wondering just a day or 2 ago if we were even gonna be able to make it...but we will, we just HAFTA! So, in answer to your question...we'll be Renfesting it this weekend...oh yes, and sweating a lot too! If you and Cyn are bored and need something to do, you know where to find us...just make that left turn at Albuquerque...oh wait...nope, not there...oh heck, you know how to get to the White Hart! Hope you guys have a great time this weekend...but we'll be at the BETTER festival! hehe!!

Oh we were just thinking about taking care of the yard. Now that we finally had some rain it's growing like crazy. If I remember right though there's this quaint little get together down the road though. What was it called again Maryland Renaissance Festival? I wonder if it has anything to do with that new show on Showtime called The Tudors....might be worth checking out. Maybe the kids will even have some fun playing around as knights and princesses. I heard it has a couple of pubs and some really nice shows. Maybe we'll pack a lunch and go over there in the afternoon. ;D
Okay now that I got through that without dying laughing... Mi familia will be there bright and early on Saturday morning for the Tailgaters Breakfast. I'm going to bring some fresh out of the oven Cinnamon Bun Scones to share. Luckily enough I can do all the prep the night before when I'm making the Spiced Molasses Cookies for Meet and Greets. I'll stumble over to the White Hart as soon as my IWG stuff is done (probably roust about 12:30 or so), but Jeff and the Ky Bug will be over there with my contributions to munchies.

I hear the ADULTS dress up in funny costumes along with their kids, and they actually have fun doing it! You won't believe this- it's all held outside, and there are no gadget stores, movie theaters, or arcades in sight....yet people still want to go there! Oh, and get this, they make you eat food...on a STICK! It sounds like it could be fun, but I don't know.... I've heard some people say the place can be addictive. I don't know if I want to endorse addictive behavior....plus, that costume thing and food on a stick has me a little nervous.....still, I might be brave enough to check it out if others are willing to.... ;D <insert snorting laughter here ;D>

Where is this magical place everyone is describing? Every now and again i think i hear the sounds of a cannon booming, bag pipes piping, and singing in the wind. I thought is was just my crazy imagination and so i was going to try to track these wild and crazy sounds down.....could these sounds be coming from this Renaissance festival that you mention??? I may just have to check it out..of course people dressing up that just sounds a bit strange and worth the gander..... ;D

Hey what better magical place to run to where the happy sauce begins flowing at 10 and ends - or rather is just halted for a time - until 6:30 or so...
Ah... less than 48 hours!!!!

Even being in that area that the festival takes place in for up to two months before has that sweet aroma of the festival periodically waifing on the wind. 48 hours and we will be able to hear, smell and experience it all once more. I can't wait for 8pm to roll around tomorrow and I can floor it up 495 towards Maryland and a weekend of fun at long last. Here is to a wonderful season and a fabulous opening weekend despite the hot stickiness that may come with it.

You know SOMEBODY up there likes you when you're going through last year's stuff in preparation for packing for this weekend...and you stumble upon unspent $$ AND a token for a free beer that doesn't expire until 10/21/07! Woo-hoo!!

We've been approached by countless people a) asking if we were attending faire (duh, uh no, I usually dress this way) and then b) follow it up by saying, "You know...I keep meaning to visit there and never have...I'll do it someday..." And they live THIS close to it!! We're clamoring for it and live 3 hours away!! I can't believe it...and yet, then again, I can...because we live a mere 30 minutes or so away from the annual Chincoteague Pony Penning, where people come from all over the country...and I've yet to go to that (of course, I ain't into horses, so that MIGHT make a difference...) Go figyah...

My favorite experience is still the woman and her daughter who were whispering about me at a gas station near faire [in garb]. I saw the little girl point but didn't hear what she said, the mother responded "It's because of her religion, honey." Then again, is that really that far off?

I live over in Pasadena, and after last year all the gas stations, grocery stores and liquor stores know us on site. That was fun at first since it seems like we were the only ones they'd seen in garb for years. They actually thought the Festival had been closed 8 years before. The neighbors were at first very confused when they saw us leaving the house at 8:30 in the morning in full garb. They finally got up the nerve to ask us what we were doing on the 5th weekend. Now they've all been asking when the Festival starts so that they can go too.

You MUST make a trip over to Assateague Island National Seashore...it's beautiful there! Take a walk up to the lighthouse...great trail (at least it was years ago...I haven't been there in many years, but everything up there has been very well maintained.) Also, stop in at the Oyster Museum...it sounds hokey, but it's quite interesting. Also, you MUST go to the Island Creamery...they have DELICIOUS home made ice cream (THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!) of nearly every flavor imaginable with fresh made waffle cones!! They're enormous, too! When Kendall and I first got together, we lived on Chincoteague for 3 months...and as an infant, I lived there for the first 2 years of my life! (My father was stationed in the Coast Guard there.) So I guess you could call me a "teaguer" (pronounced 'tigger' like the Winnie the Pooh character. I hope you have a great time...but WE will be at MDRF...sorry we'll be missing you, both there and here!

Having been a horse lover as a kid, I loved the "Misty" stories. We spent part of a day on Chincoteague and Assateague last summer during our vacation. The lighthouse and trail were closed for maintenance, but we went on a long nature walk out to an overlook. We saw some ponies way off in the distance, but the only ones we got to see up close were the ones in the petting corral next to the McDonalds. The walk was soo beautiful and peaceful, thank goodness some fellow walkers gave us some bug spray, or we'd have been eaten alive. What Idiots to not have any with us, DUH!

And I'm sure I'll take many pictures. We'll certainly look into the oyster museum and I think I read about the creamery somewhere and I'm always up for some good ice cream so I'll make that one a definite "to-do". Hee. It's remotely possible I'll come by for the last two hours of Faire on Sunday if I feel up to it after driving back all day since I'll have dropped my mom off at the airport by then but..we'll see.

Try camping there for three days in the beginning of August. We did that the year before last and regretted it. The mosquitoes don't care after dark about bug repellent, and the horses get mighty friendly with your food. They broke into our coolers and ate half of our supplies for the weekend. The only thing that made the evenings bearable was going down to the beach, setting up the bon fire and drinking heavily. The bugs were too afraid to come near the flames, and the ones that did were driven off by thinned blood and loud drumming.
