I finally dragged myself out of the office to get a chance to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Depp and Bloom have certainly not gotten any less attractive in their respective roles as the cunning, sexy pirate and the overly brave (and naive) eye-candy who gives into peer pressure just a bit too easily.
So, with the debut of Pirates of the Caribbean II, the media has picked up on it and there are crazy pirate haps all over the place, especially on the TV. True Caribbean Pirates is a great documentary on the History channel and will be re-airing this Sunday at 6pm. Great period coverage, hits the major "Golden Age" pirates; Morgan, Jennings, Bonney, so forth. The first Pirates of the Caribbean will also be airing this Saturday at 8pm on USA.
Has anyone else gotten a chance to see the new PotC: II or the History Channel documentary?

I caught part of the documentary and enjoyed it. Hope to catch the whole thing next time. I think they've aired it several times already. I hope to see POTC II this weekend.

A whole bunch of us went last Saturday, in garb (followed by taking over a schooner in Baltimore). Beers were quaffed, shanties were sung, pistols were fired, and random "arrrr"s were bestowed on very confused passers-bye. Saw some of the History Channel special (along with Modern Marvels - Pirate Tech) on Sunday, and finally finished them on Wednesday. Nice to know the entire history in context, although I've heard differing accounts of Henry Morgan from other History Channel specials. You often have to view several different documentaries on the same subject to even out the various biases of the particular documentary producer.

I haven't seen the documentary. We missed opening night of POTC II: DMC (DMC for short) but caught it on Sunday! I loved it, but then I'm partial to all things Depp. Can't wait for Number III; rumor has it we may get to see Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow's dad after all. I wish I had seen Number II with more of a pyratical (Is that a word?) crowd. My fellow movie goers were too quiet. No one came in garb except one little boy. I'm still itching to wear my red pirate coat -- if only it weren't 97 degrees.
