I have a similar corset top with chemise and skirt and just purchased another skirt and want to know how to get the top skirt bunch like this? What is holding it up, it's it all personal preference in how it lays, etc?? ~Kerri Postscript ... I do realize the hems of both skirts are unfinished ...

Oh pretties! I like pretties! You can just tuck the top skirt into your waistband under the bottom of the bodice or if you're worried about constantly retucking, use discreetly hidden safety pins. I think it's a matter of personal preference how you hike it up. Experiment and have fun with it!

Hi new friend and yes, just what Ladyneysa said! Play around with it a bit. I didn't think it would work for me, as I had help at one of MDRF's clothiers for the first time my skirt was hiked...but it really does work...I find that the bodice keeps the hiked up skirt hiked up nicely! There are also leather and/or metal rings you can buy to do the same thing, but I always found that hiking (or using the pins mentioned earlier) works just fine. I do a little accordion type fold at the waistband, hoisting the skirt with each little fold (about 1" with each turn) until I have reached the desired length of the skirt...I tend to do both left and right sides, leaving the middle to drape down...then tuck the folded pieces under my bodice. Again, play around with it. Again, welcome Kerri and so glad to have you here!! Hope to meet you at faire!

I use a simple belt. I pull up the sides I want belt it on, flounce it a little, but on my bodice then finish flouncing. Be patient it might take a couple of times for you to find the way it lays best on you...I have much in the back so I flounce on the sides to balance me out.

Mistresshemyngton,
I like your Avatar Picture. What type of bodice do you have one? I like the dark dress with the white apron. Very pretty.

Thank you for the compliment. The bodice is one I had to make to fit the time period. I don't know of any patterns that have the square yoke/neckline. I am wearing boned bodies underneath it so is gives it a clean look...I so hope to fit in it again this year when I am scheduled to rejoin St. George to be the guest cook. In Former years I was a member of the cast and played the Head Cook for Sir. Thomas Kytson, so, the black was to fit in with the livery colors...I looked horrible in the Kytson yellow.

Take the sides of the skirt and pin them both in the back or tuck them into the back of the belt.
