Just got off the phone with daughter Kyra . . . she's so psyched about getting to go to MDRF with "Dad" for the weekend. That's just added to my own excitement. . . I wonder if the faire would get upset if I picked out my parking space early.
Like tomorrow.

Me and my girls are raring to go. We will be there Sunday for opening canon (I work Saturdays), but probably will leave before closing canon, school starts on Monday for them.
I was all set all summer long and was so ready for the first Cider at Festival (my "Daddy Juice" of choice) that I actually brought hard cider to every cookout that I was invited to. And yes, they were gone before the beers.
The real problem I have now is figuring out my first meal. I have been craving the pork chop on a stick. Pork and apple (cider) go great together, but according to the site, they dropped that this year so I am at a loss as to what to have.
Also, don't forget that rt 450 is closed so you can not go that way this year. I know it is a longer route with more traffic, but the drive through all the woods really gives you time to clear your head from the mundane world and get more into Festival mood, as if anyone here needs that.

Rennfest site says: If you're coming from points west of Annapolis, (ie. Crofton) this likely affects you. But if you're coming up from Annapolis itself, you can just come up 178 to Crownsville Rd. If you're coming from points north of Annapolis, you'd come down 97 to 178 to Crownsville Rd. Where are you guys going to be?

Being too tired to search the archives, where are you coming from? I can tell you if this affects you pretty quickly.

Okay, I should've driven all the way down there just to confirm, but I feel confident this is correct: If you normally take 50 and get off at the Crownsville exit, you will see signs that say 450 is closed, however you can still make your two lefts to get on to 450, then a right at Crownsville Road and be at the festival. Only a stretch of 450 is closed, farther down. Folks who normally take 50 to 3N, then a right on 450 and a left onto Crownsville Road will have the detour. You could take 50 straight there and follow the above directions. Look at it on Mapquest to make sure. 450/301/50 is all the same road for a good stretch, that can be confusing. After opening weekend, they're supposed to be finished - let's hope. Um, please 'splain about the Rt. 450 being closed dealie...not being from the area, I'm unfamiliar and am uncertain even if that's the road we take...any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! This is why I'll just be coming down 32 to 97 to 178. Or I might just skip 97 and get on 178 off Veteran's Hwy. Just for old time's sake (that was my first route to get to faire when I lived in Severna Park for a while).

You know you have it bad when you look longingly at a blue port-a-privy thinking about being at Faire and how nice they will be after a couple of ciders.

It is about the same travel time when there is no traffic and much quicker later in the season when you get the 5 miles of nose to tail backups on rt 450 to make the left onto Crownsville Rd.

After my last few days, I NEED this weekend HORRIBLY...
I've done the 301 to 450 way and the 50 to exit 24 (I think? or 23.. I dunno - it's the one for Annapolis mall!!) to 450 way... Even if I come up from my mom's (off of 301), I STILL take 50... NEVER any issues that way...

NEVER any issues that way... It's 23, 24 takes you to downtown Annapolis. When I come up from the Washington Beltway (on weekday nights), I take Route 50, but use exit 22, which is marked Ariss T. Allen Blvd/ Riva Road---(Exit 23 also works, but it places you on Riva Road a little further away)---and take the Riva Road exit to the right, onto Riva Road (it is a right turn light.) The second traffic light on Riva Road is Harry Truman Blvd. You turn right onto that and go to the end (about 2 miles) to the light that is South Haven Road to the left and Crownsville Road to the right. Turn right onto Crownsville Road, and you'll soon cross Route 450 and just beyond that is the Quicky Mart (on the right) and then the MDRF on your right.

I realized how silly it was after I posted here (kinda like asking some old codger local for directions and he tells you to turn by where the old water tower used to be...anyway)...we will be staying on most weekends at the Hampton Inn in Annapolis on Womack Drive, just off of Admiral Cochran, which is basically just off of Riva Road, in Annapolis. For the weekends that we won't be staying there, we will either be at the Country Inn and Suites on Defense Highway or the Holiday Inn Express on Riva Road...thanks for any help...looking forward to seeing you Saturday!

I don't know what way you guys normally go but you should be fine going the route Mathemactor mentioned. I'd say do either that one or drive over to the Annapolis mall and go north up 178, turn left on Honeysuckle, then left again on Crownsville Rd, and then left into Faire.

Ana, as always, is quite right. Actually, many of us have been getting a quick lunch or dinner at the Chipotle's at the Annapolis Mall (or Westfields Mall? I haven't quite sorted out what is what over there---What do I know? I live in Columbia) during rehearsal days or nights. Anyway, the entrance to that Mall at the Chiptole's is exactly at 450, sort of perpendicular and across from the Mall. That part of 450 between the Chipotle's Mall and Crownsville Road is still open, so if you start from there (and perhaps a delicious Chipotle's fajito burrito) and go down 450 (or is it Defense Highway?) to Crownsville Road, and then make a right at the Quicky Mart (which now carries Smart Water---the placibo-laced water of choice among the cast) you'll find the Festival grounds. Or is all of that suddenly more confusing than it has to be? Oh, and did I mention the Chipotle's?

Which, when I first moved here, I thought for a while there were two malls and was, let us say, a little confused there for a while. The only thing I got out of the rest of your post was something about Chipotle....

Now I'm getting hungry---I'll probably be stopping by a certain restaurant in the Annapolis/Westfields Mall before rehearsal tonight (our last one before Saturday! And then, it is no longer rehearsal----although with me, it's hard to tell.) -John (Morning dance at 10, R&J at 12, Camelot Children's Theater at 2 and 4, Court's Court at 5, and Bertram Ripley all the time)

Talked to Kyra. . .she's ready. Cyn just finished work on her new grey skirt to go with her purple outfit and grey/purple striped socks. . . she's gonna look SO cute.
Of course I'll be in the typical Black Fox green and black . . . no surprises there. Probably bring the small Nikon instead of the gear because it's the first day and don't want to be too bulky for all the hugs and smooches. . .and not just from Scotsman, Sir Dante, and Amras!!
I'll have the following in some of my many pockets:
Snot Ribbons = Free
FriendsofMDRF.org pins = still only $6
First 500 pins = for any new subscribers to Faire Magazine, $22 (and fill out the form)
Just tug my cape or buy me a brew for attention! LOL
