I will see you folks bright and early Saturday morning! Sadly, I won't be able to participate Sunday, as I'm seeing a (wo)man about a Horse. ~Kerri

Cool! I can't have my own horse right now, but I'm taking lessons and volunteering at a local draft horse rescue (heading up there tonight to ride, actually! Hee!). So now I'm going to have to find you at faire and talk your ear off about horses. Be warned.

Ana, I would LOVE to sit with you at faire and talk horses. I'll have to check out your rescue, as we are currently looking for the Husband a safe mount.

What sort of riding will he be doing? Ana, the hubby will only be doing trail riding. But I want an all around mount that might even be able to go English as well. I am thinking of showing again.

Ana, I think I've fallen in LOVE with Sailor!!! I'm going to go ride him this afternoon hopefully for the first time (for me, not him). I'll let you know how he goes. I will tell you they've told me they figure Sailor will pretty much just be a "ring" horse. He apparently doesn't care much for the trails (most of their horses they take trail riding). If you're just looking for light riding, you might look at Lucas. He hasn't been ridden much, but he is very quiet and sweet. His big problem is he's only sound for light riding. Oh, and I posted more pictures of Sailor (on page 1 and two) here: fhotd64476.yuku.com/topic/11455I love his face.

Oh WOW Ana! I really really like him now!! ;D I bet he'd learn to at the very least enjoy a trail ride. You don't think??? I'd like to snatch him up right this minute!! Wee, I rode him tonight. Only for about twenty minutes, tops, just to get to know each other. The not so fun things I discovered: 1) He's kind of a jerk about picking up his feet (I was grooming him before riding). So that needs some work. Apparently, it takes three people to trim him (one to distract him with treats, one to hold the hoof, one to trim it) 2) We did a little song-and-dance at the mounting block: I get up and ready to mount, he backs up just far enough I can't reach the stirrup. I pull him forward again, get up, ready to mount, he backs up.... Once I convinced him (after a couple iterations) he really did want to let me on, he was fine. The more fun stuff: He sticks to the rail easily (one of the other horses I've ridden there, you have to work to convince her she wants to not cut corners). He has a really nice trot, both sitting and posting. He's pretty responsive and picks things up quickly (I asked him to turn on the forehand, just to see if he'd do it, and he seemed to get what I was asking pretty easily, though I didn't push it too far). He has brakes. EDIT: on trailriding: I don't know. According to Christine, he apparently has gotten worse each time they've taken him (four times or so) instead of better. I'm not sure if it's just being uncomfortable being ridden out in the open or what. I wasn't there for it so this is what I'm hearing secondhand.

Sorry to continue the threadjack, but I can't resist chiming in to your conversation. Horse nut here from way back! Haven't ridden or been in horse circles since I was a teen, then life took me away from them. I recently started revisiting my love for them when my husband got me a subscription to horse illustrated. Love your pictures, and I'll talk horses with you ladies anytime!

And speaking of horses, we have a couple of Clydesdales (well, half-Clydesdales) joining the Free Lancers on the tiltyard at 12, 2, 4, and 6 this season. I'll be there at 6, kibbitzing with the Joust cheerleaders, although if you'd rather head to Pub Sing by then (and that will be wonderous---Jack Rackham, Zack Rackham, and John Rugby, with the Pirates, et al!) then be sure to catch the horsies at an earlier joust.

Well this has nothing to do with horses but Ana you had me intrigued with your dragon eggs that I had to get some too. Only one but hope to make the family grow..
One day I will own a horse, right now I doubt a horse would fit in my little row home in downtown baltimore. That rescue looks great. Also do you know of any place near the Baltimore area in which you can rent a horse to go trail riding?
