Yes, I know it is still a bit too distant to have accurate weather predictions----I've read Lorenz' paper on the subject---but I looked up the long range forecast. The heat, humidity, and rain we've had during rehearsals over the past few weeks had me concerned! And, so far, things look really great! Some of what I've found, looking up Revel Grove on the NOAA Web site, include: "...August cannot be too hot." "...rain may never fall 'til after sundown." "By eight, the morning fog must disappear." In short there's simply not a more congenial spot for happily-ever-aftering than here in Revel Grove. At least in my opinion.

This is interesting...Rather than using the NOAA weather predictions for selecting the weather for opening weekend, the MDRF is holding a referendum---a poll if you will---on the web site, www.rennfest.com to choose the opening day weather. As I understand it, the winning forecast will actually be the weather in Revel Grove for August 23, 1541. So, please go to the site, vote for what you'd like it to be, peruse the schedule, casts, music, acts, shows (that Camelot Children's Theater looks especially appealing!) and the like. Now, there is no entry for torrential downpour, so I guess we'll have to wait until week two for Hurricane Gustav.

Okay, so since I'm a bit dense at times...please 'splain, Lucy...Um, the website says to predict what we think it will be...not what we want...so we're in 2 different camps here...I am preferring either a perfect summer day OR rain...but the forecasts I'm looking at (and which seem to go hand in hand with the glass half empty person that I usually am), are leaning more toward hot and humid...hmmmmm...you know, I do have a superstitious streak, so I don't wanna jinx anything and put what I THINK it will be and then have it turn out like that, based upon so many votes (yes, we ARE going to influence the weather gods)...so, what to do, what to do? Put my vote in for what I WANT or what I PREDICT? Hmmm? *yes, a silly post, but you know me....*

I assumed that whichever the majority predicted, then that was what the MDRF administration would provide for opening day. But, then again, what do I know? I only stopped by to cast my daily vote for pork pockets and noticed the new poll.

By the way...you MUST describe the pork pockets to me...I've never had them, but thought they sounded interesting (why, oh why, didn't Scotch eggs make the voting list? Hmmm? )

I just hope it is not like opening day of 2007. Too true! We had a newborn baby and a nine months pregnant woman in tow with us that day! We all had to call it quits early!

It's hard to not be overheated, regardless of the temperature, when surrounded by so many beautiful ladies and the warmth of such friends as these.

Well, we are close enough that I have reasonable confidence (probability exceeding 80%-sorry, I've done research in nonlinear dynamics and simply cannot trust any detailed forecasts greater than 7 days out) in the forecast for this weekend. It seems as if Tropical Storm Fay will not be attending the RenFest after all. She will be disappointed, no doubt, that the Florida RenFest is no longer in session. The NOAA forecast (the one I have confidence in) says:
Saturday(August 23): Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
Sunday(August 24): Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85.
Oh, well, it looks like I won't be fainting this opening...at least not from the sweltering heat.
So Tigerlily, it'll be a good weekend to come on up.

Current weather forecast from weather.com for this weekend:
Aug 23 Saturday More sun than clouds. Highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Aug 24 Sunday Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s.
It seems to now be suggesting the rain won't show up until Monday. *crosses fingers!*

Thank you for thinking of me, Sir Mathemactor...uh, John...uh, Bertram...(do you ever have the feeling of having multiple personality syndrome? ) Anyway, as they say in our neck of the woods..."Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, we'll be there!" Yes, we're heading up and are going to strive to make as many weekends as we can, although we WILL miss the Saturday of Labor Day weekend (can't be helped...UVA vs. USC in C-ville, first football game of the UVA season)...but we'll be there the rest of the weekend. As it's looking now, Labor Day's weather is gonna be F-I-N-E! As far as this upcoming weekend...I think I can deal with sunny and 82 or even mid or upper 80's...would rather not have to deal with the humidity, but ANYTHING would beat last year's opening weekend...as far as rain...I can deal with that too...something QUITE special about Revel Grove in the rain! Can't wait to see you all!!

OK, I can take this one! For Magician's weekend, the NOAA forecast for Revel Grove is:
Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.
Labor Day: Sunny, with a high near 82.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.
And, at 30% probability, it's likely to be no rain yet again. I do hope that we get plenty of rain through Friday, though, to keep the dust down a bit. See everyone on Saturday/Sunday/Monday!

I just checked the NOAA (the best Government Agency ever!) web site and the prediction for this coming weekend is perfect!
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52.
I think we can make up for the three rainy days by topping maybe 60,000 guests per weekend from now on. And the regular playtrons on this board can certainly help. Just bring 200 of your closest friends per day (new ones each day, of course)...
(aside: Also posted elsewhere)
