Of course, it's been waking up slowly for the past few weeks. But this morning, it really seemed to spring to life. Not sure what it was exactly. Maybe it was the fact that the Knights (and their horses) were there. Or perhaps that Tiffany and I rode - not walked - into Opening Gate. Or the fact that scripts had, for the most part, dissapeared. And no struggling actors called "Line!" to harried stage managers. Or that we taught all the new people the opening dance. Or the vendors and their employees were out in full force. Doors are opened, booths are getting ready, wares are set out. Or perhaps the fact that I saw - and hugged the hell out of - my right hand man Ray Partenheimer ... and then promptly delved into the schedule to figure out who was guarding whom at what point of the day. Or the signs. Good lord, there's more than ever before, and they looked even more colorful than I remember. All of this and more, I guess. At the end of rehearsal, as I walked out of Revel Grove from the Globe, it took much longer than usual. Had to stop every five feet and catch up with people I hadn't seen for some 9 months. The magic is nearly ready. One more week, which we actors have affectionately labelled "hell" ... and then the final ingredient will be added. That's you guys. We're nearly ready! Can't wait.

What was really telling to me was the large number of cars parked outside the main gate---nowhere near what we'll see next week, of course, but so many times more than what we've had over the past five or so weeks of rehearsal. We are heading down the home stretch. Our part is looking great---the story setups at opening gate, the dance, the Court stories, the chess game, Romeo and Juliet, the children's theater, knighting ceremonies, the jousts---all wonderfully entertaining and almost ready for prime time. I, and the whole cast and crew join Fred in anxious anticipation of the first of 19 opening cannon volleys.

Yesterday was so fantastic to be back amongst you all. I was so excited when I was asked to join the rehearsal with St. George due to my guest cooking. I really felt I was back were I belong. Everyone was upbeat and excited about opening....My gracious King you and your queen looked majestic upon your steeds, even in your Hawaiian shirt. And you good master apothecary with your portrait upon your shirt did seem in good spirits when I attended upon the midwife, Beatrice, while she introduced two of her four apprentices to yourself. Yes, my lords I am the really tall blond lady that is the bosom friend of the petite redhead midwife.

It is so good to see you again and I will of course stop by Hengrave Hall to see you and the Simplest next weekend and perhaps play "guess the illness" with her vials of bodily fluids. Oh, and actually, I'm an alchemist, not an apothecary ('though I play one on T.V.)

What a lovely post! Sorry this is coming so late after you posted...I've not been spending much time online of late. You painted a loverly portrait of Revel Grove and I would imagine it would be quite an experience to be able to see it all fresh and new, with freshly painted signs, no dust, no crowds, and beautiful green grass (before it gets trampled into non-existence)! Thank you for sharing your view of Revel Grove at this time of year...a view that most of us don't get to see. Can't wait to see you there, your majesty...maybe this year I'll get my nerve up to introduce myself. Not so much nervousness as just not wanting to be perceived as a celebrity hunting pest, ya know? We'll see you (and all of the rest of the fine folk here) on Saturday! Huzzah!!
