As you're all aware, we've recently suffered a great loss in the Renaissance family world, the passing of Joe Kudla, aka Thomas Snot of Puke and Snot fame. I was truly blessed to have seen their act several times over the last 4 years and am doubly thankful now that Joe is no longer with us.
This a.m. I was informed of the passing of a good friend of mine...what I consider a young fellow...at the age of 54 from a sudden heart attack. He was a dear man whose kindness and warmth touched everyone around him in our tiny community. He was a brick mason by trade, but a bit of a celebrity in our little neck o' the woods, as he was a gifted musician, playing in local bands that spanned over 30 years, and most recently, as a solo musician. He helped me beyond words during some difficult times, with small but TREMENDOUS gestures as simple as offering a smile, a hug, or a word of encouragement. He will be sorely missed.
The passing of these two people...people whom I am of no blood relation...has reminded me of the brevity of life...and of those around us whom we consider family, even if there is no DNA connection. 'Family' means a lot of different things...Joe Kudla was part of a huge family of Rennies...my friend Glen, was family as he was a dear friend.
My point here is, as is usually the case when a loved one passes is (much of which our illustrious BF posted previously on the passing of Sir Joe), to not take life...or our "family" (however, that term applies) for granted. Life is indeed short. We need to treasure each and every moment with those whom we love...letting them know how precious they are to us...mending fences where there be need of such...and generally just cherishing each and every moment we have here, for this brief stay.
I am thankful for my extended rennie family...those whom I've come to know and love here, those whom I've not yet met, those who I will never meet, and even those who may or may not want to know or like me, based upon any number of things from silly personality differences to whom I choose to associate with. I can't ask anyone to do anything, but for me, I am encouraged (as I should have been all along) to strive for love and friendship with those around me, knowing that we are all indeed, one giant human family.
If I haven't told y'all lately...I love you all and am that much richer for having known ye. See you Saturday!
