Whoo-hoo! I'm getting my small crew together for the tailgate! What time do you all usually get to the fairegrounds? I'm NOT a morning person, but I'll make an exception for this wildly special circumstance... oh, and are we still bringing food? I'm prepared to make trifle, but it has to get eaten! Spoiled trifle is very upsetting.... sort of like dwarves are very upsetting (Into the Woods reference... very random, it's okay.)

At the intersection of 100 and 170, watching the guys from Frank's Towing clean up the glass from yet another early morning collision? No no noooo no! I know where I hope you all are...a certain parking lot on Crownsville Road, across from the General's Highway Corridor Park, and get there early!! Cider's on me... Okay first: Now I'm gonna be all paranoid going that way to work like I've been doing. I may have to start going down 32 again instead of 100. =P Secondly, I totally plan on being there, with bells on. And hopefully with a couple friends alongside. Aaah, now 170 at 32...thats an entirely different towing company...er, I mean, thing... Thats the beauty of our tailgates...bring anything you want... I usually get there between 0830-0900, and enjoy the spectacle of watching folks trail in while I have a Flintstone Vitamin and a bottle of spring water, followed by a cup or two of plain, black coffee, not wishing to metabollically interfere with my high fiber breakfast or any official policy which may threaten the faire's liquor license, before opening gate...

And if only Angi will wear her bee suit... I'll have Woodchuck Amber and Woodchuck Raspberry in the cooler. Oh darn, I think that suit makes my *ss look big :-) Could be the stinger though :-) mmmm cider...:-)

This weekend, I am having the official "scrubbing of the truck bed" festival in my side yard...busy hurricane season, as well as a full winter and spring of hauling dead pine trees to the land fill has left my tail gate looking somewhat "substandard"... Mmmm, french nips...I feel so naughty...

Went to see the Baysox play down in Bowie on Saturday night, and was surpised to see a good portion of the cast, in garb, greeting folks as they entered Prince George's Stadium. Mary Ann (at least it sounded like Mary Ann's voice) introduced the players over the PA, and Jim did his fire-eating act after the game, right on home plate, just before the fire works. Great stuff, stoking the flames for fest! Huzzah!!

I got a call the other day -- we volunteered to help a colleague who is running for state's attorney. The volunteer coordinator wanted to know if we could work the campaign booth at Bayfest --- on August 26th and 27th! I gave my apologies -- "we have a prior commitment" -- AT THE WHITEHART!! I hope they find someone to work the campaign booth that weekend, but it won't be me. ;D

As long as we go fishing for meade and turkey legs... I'm so there!!!
Hey, I'm getting the fest around 9 AM on Saturday. How will I find this crowd?
I'm still going to make trifle; if you have never had this dessert to end all deserts, you don't want to miss it!

We are NOT a hard crowd to miss love. Look for the glare of the sun beating off the bald guy in the hot cloak's head and then you can find us. Look for the Cap'n Chelle in her notable redness as well. And fear not, if we see you, you'll see us.

In another topic it says that bringing alcohol into the festival is against the law so I was curious isnt it against the law to have it in the parking lot?

Management's policy on BYOB is perfectly clear. The parking lot is most definately private (faire) property, and their liquor licence doesn't include you no matter which side of the gate you're on. If given the opportunity they will enforce it aggressively, and it would suck to be PNG'ed before the season even starts. On the other hand as the lot is patroled by cops, so a particullarly foul mooded cop could decide you've run afoul of state open container laws. Of course rumor has it that beer/whine prices have been raised this year to match cider prices, so I'm sure you won't be alone in practicing a bit of frontloading out front. (I'll be doing alot of whining about beer prices.) As ever, be smart....

Orbs is, of course, correct. The policy is clear, and we don't want any licenses in jeopardy on our account...I've been to dry faires before, and they are very, very...dry...I shall be consuming coffee in the lot, and any official types are welcome to sample it...It will come up positive for caffiene, no doubt...I do reserve the right to be stupid in all legal activities, however... Updated extended forecast for Crownsville... Saturday the 26th - High of 90, Low of 72, partly cloudy Sunday the 27th - High of 90, Low of 76, chance of thunderstorms As of now, the storms on Sunday are supposedly possible in the afternoon, but, as we know here in the Chesapeake, they may just be terrible rumors...

Management has never said anything or posted anything about it being in the parking lot, so I'm really not sure. Managment doesn't have to say anything about it. . . it's kinda' the law in Maryland. MDRF could be find a ton and lose various liquor licenses for just ONE infraction! I just spent the last hour going through the state codes as they apply to consuming alcohol in public. . . check out this link: mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe?g2B&11-304Why they can't serve you if you're drunk: mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe?g2B&12-110One of the reasons you can't "hang out" and drink in the parking lot afterwards: mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe?g2B&12-111Why can't you bring your own booze in?: (this also shows that MDRF is within the law by granting special requests in writing, such as champagne for weddings, etc. . . ) mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe?g2B&16-201There I hope that clears it up for folks. I know we've been jawing this stuff over since '02 when we started "Friends of The Maryland Renaissance Festival" and I don't know why I didn't do this research before. Anyway. . . that's what I found at least!

Thank you for the clarification, so now the question needs to be asked "How can we have a tailgate party in the parkinglot before the festival opens if it is illegal?"

You can have a party without alcohol. This group is just as fun sober as it is with alcohol.
