I have to say that so far, with more than half the season behind us, this has got to be one of the best MDRF seasons ever! . . . for me at least.
Why is this one so incredible? Let's see if I can list them all:
• Members of our "club" so involved with MDRF that they're on cast. . . i.e. Lady Gloriana and Sir Dragon. I'm so impressed with not only their dedication, but their abilities as period actors, their look, and they're attitude in being so friendly to so many people.
• Sam, Jen, Scottsman, tigerlily, Lady Lauren Juliette, Pynchosalt, Holly, Lady Lauren Juliette, Empress Anna, and more (of whom will smack me because I left them off the list) of new folks who have introduced themselves and become major hugs in my life. Some great friendships have begun this season and I treasure them all.
• The constant loves of my life who have become my best friends even when faire's not going on namely, Kevin (Amras), Angi, Chelle, Meredeth, Eric (Mongo).
• No Drama. I've steered clear of any drama at all including other sites who've taken the work we've done here and claimed it as their own. . . it bugs me. . .but it doesn't get to me like it used to. Everyone knows we're the original group since 2002. . . and it's actually kind of sad to see something cool show up here first then see a few creeps sign in under an "invisible" status (visible to me as moderator of this forum) and then seeing our work on another site a few days later. Bottom line is, does that change how much we enjoy our friendships here or how we enjoy MDRF? . . . not really. . . so I've learned to get over it.
• Flirtfest! OMG have I gotten my flirt on this season. . .several of ye ladies have been subjected to stalkings, drive-by nape-kissings, and serious hugs (at one point on this past Sunday I had Sam and Jen in full hug and their feet dangling). Angi has offered me cider sips at every meeting and introduced me to some of the loveliest ladies in the shire.
• Alternate PubSing. My new stalkees, Sam and Jen, turned me on to the APS (Alternate Pub Sing) at the Dragon with the Rogues. Anyone who has heard my ramblings in the past few years have noticed my growing disappointment with Pub Sing becoming a "members only" celebration. Jokes and references pertain to castmembers or veteran playtrons have been way too obvious and of course the lack of an adequate sound system makes my ears bleed. Up until this season, we've been leaving the site early because there was nothing to see at Pub Sing that was fun. . . well until we found the Dragon Inn and the Rogues. Oh and the belly dancers, and the smaller crowd, the rowdiness and freedom of an un-staged show. The Rogues have grown on me this year and I'm absolutely a fan now and the APS is what we used to love in earlier Pub Sings. (** please note this is MY opinion and possibly not that of any one else's)
• Cast member happiness. Several cast members and entertainers are members of this forum and most of them are either silent or have "coded" screen names. This season, I've gotten the opportunity to chat with a lot of these folks about festival, their acts, and even what we're doing here at FoMDRF.org. The conversations have been so unguarded and wonderful. In fact a lot of them were more interested in my work on The Pyrates Way and me. . then them! (insert major ego stroke here)
There's probably a LOT more reason to indicate here but I'm too busy enjoying myself than to take time to reminisce. Let's just have a ball with the rest of the season!
Love to you all.

Ahhhh, I feel a group hug coming on! I am glad I have made the time to mingle a little more this year. My schedule was pretty light at the beginning. Now I have a competition every weekend until the end of October, so I'll be a little scarce the rest of the season. Might be there on the 15th, and the last 2 days. Had a blast this last weekend. Really enjoyed hanging out and talking to Master Will, got to hang out with Chelle a bit, and was proud to represent the win'n pirate jeopardy team! Arrrgggggghhhhh! Even if Captain Duncan was claiming I was a spy ;D I will see you all again in a few weeks, there are still so many new people I have not met. Cheers!

HERE, HERE!!! Yes, my dears, it HAS been a glorious season!! I've had the day from hell here (returned home last night to find out Kendall's dad had had a mild stroke and is in the hospital plus 10 hours online with support tech for anti-virus software that won't install and tekkies who keep f*cking up other programs whilst trying to fix my anti-virus problem...and this is all for our business!, not personal stuff!)...it's shaping up to be the week from hell and I GRACIOUSLY offered to Kendall that we skip faire this weekend to get some work done (after all, it's a full weekend thingy away for us when we do faire)...and his message and exact (well, not exact...I mean, this IS a family-friendly place, right?!) was..."ARE YOU FREAKIN' NUTS?!?!?! WE ARE NOT...NOT...GOING TO MISS FAIRE THIS WEEKEND...THE MAEDIEVAL BAEBES ARE GONNA BE THERE AND WE ARE GONNA GO!! WE NEED THIS!!!" Yes, thank you all soooooo very much for everything...but mostly, for making it the best Ren season I've ever had a chance to be a part of! Black Fox, you and Cyn and Kyra Wench are newly adopted family members...Amras, hope to see more of you...Angie, I missed my sip this weekend, but enjoyed watching you flirt and grope...Lady Dragonfly, my GOD, we enjoyed hangin' with you and chatting! Must do more of it...Al, glad to know you're still around watching over the ladies...Ana, great to see you again and meet your mummy...Will Paisley, so lovely to have met you and your lovely fiancee...maybe the Moose song thingy will work out NEXT weekend...and what can I say to my 2 new sisters in crime, Sam and Jen? My god, women, you 2 are the best and we love you so much!!! Hopefully, we'll all have rallied for next weekend...we got our video dvds yesterday from the videographer for our wedding...and there some of you were...Jen, I saw you wiping your eyes! You really DID cry, didn't you?! Gang, you guys are all the best and that truly has made the faire for me this year...of course, I'm new to all of this...but you've just made it so memorable and as long as I live, I will never forget this year's faire...not just 'cause Kendall and I got married there this year, but mostly, 'cause all of the new friends we've made and interactions we've had...we love you all!!!!! HUZZAH!!!!

I have to agree with everybody!! This year's festival has been amazing. This is my first year with a Fairever pass and the freedom this affords me is great! I know if I have a couple of hours to kill on a weekend, I can just grab the Gwen and head on down to Crownsville. I've also had the opportunity to show some newbies around and introduce them to their first RenFest. I think I will have yearly visitors during this time of year from now on...
Actually meeting and chatting with the cast members has been a huge treat! My newest favorite show (sorry, Hack-n-Slash) is now "Men in Tights". My boys from Canada REPRESENT!
Black Fox does have some points about the PubSing at the White Hart, but I've only been going to MDRF for three years now so the little side/in-jokes and regular songs are still fun and new to me. I will check out alternate pubsing before this season is over... it may be that next year I'll have to plan a one week White Hart, one week Dragon Inn sort of schedule. I just love the Pyrates Royale so much that when I miss them I don't feel complete!!!
Also, I think I've been the shyest member of this board so far. I had the courage to go up to Black Fox the first day of the festival and I've met a couple of other awesome people too, but I really need to break out of my shell...
I'll be there this Saturday with my two-year-old daughter to check out the Baebes. If you see me, come up and say, "hey"... I just need some encouragement!

Ah... a good emotional mush fest ~ I love these... hehehe
Yes this has been my greatest Ren season... It's really the first one where I've made it a point to be here ever single weekend (minus ProgPower!!)... And I've gotta say, from the first day til now I feel like I've been a part of the Faire alot longer than I really have... I have met so many people, I won't remember all the names but I hope the opportunities to get to know all of them keep presenting themselves and that I get to add to the 'I know I've met this person but can't remember their names' list ;D
It is NOT Faire without seeing Black Fox running around with that gleam in his eye, wicked grin and that laugh to let you know he's really up to no good... He is the one stalker I'll always look forward to seeing (and let me tell ya, he gives AMAZING hugs!!!!)
Al ~ the official cider sponser of the SDW's ~ Sam and I always look forward to running into you 'cause we're guarenteed to be laughing with each other.. You are truly a good man.. really I mean it... swear... now hehehe
Tigerlily (the 3rd SDW) & Kendall ~ you two RULE!!! I absolutely LOVE knowing Sam n' I are going to run into you two during our "mingling" and a good time is eminent (and hell yeah I cried at your wedding!!! I meant it when I said it was the most beautiful one I've ever been to!!!)
some know I have another reason to be absolutely tickled about this season, but we'll leave name n' details alone... Ok, ok ok... I'm smitten.. I admit it.. hehehe And the thought of being single isn't all that appealing anymore... I know, I know, I'm doomed.. hehehe
But most importantly, my girl, my best Ren bud, the reason this year Faire will never be matched again (but we'll have a blast trying to out do ourselves!!).. Sam... My very own SDW.. I love how the year has turned out so far and it wouldn't be as awesome with no YOU!! I despise the mornings when you're late 'cause I feel so utterly lost... Yep I can't live my Ren life without ya girl!!! ;D You are my sister in every sense and I love ya to death... (PS, we must begin to build the Entourage just a weeeee bit heheehe)

We do try to remain in character and in-period, as much as we can. This season for both of us will always be a treat and the amazing thing is that it is not over yet. His show keeps getting better and better and I am having lot's of fun. I think that in terms of pubsing, since being cast we are not staying for every single one like we did as playtrons but the ones that we have attended so far this year seem be benefiting from the new arrangement as that has opened them up more and the sound system seems better.

I certainly am. Of course, this is only my second year. And from you guys' continued mentionings of APS, I'm going to have to swing by that way one evening for once instead of leaving right at 5:30, aren't I? But yeah, being able to take friends along with me, to MEET new friends, to seeing the lovely wedding of Tigerlily and Kendall, to getting my mom Rogue'd on Sunday (yes, Sam 'n Jen, we did it {finally} over by the Boar's Head as planned. I have pictures. and thanks Sir Will Paisley for suggesting it and helping out!), to certain Fight School members singing me happy birthday after Reloaded on Sunday, to just having a good time every time I go. It's awesome.

It's awesome. 1) Leaving at ***5:30***?!?!?! You've been missing the Witch Trial, the Final Joust, and both of the pub sings! I ... I ... I ... words fail me. 2) *Sir* Will Paisley? Hey, I work for a living! ;D (I've got to lose many pounds of insulation before I can tolerate the heat well enough to wear the clothing required to be a "Sir" - even then, I'm a "Sir" in the same manner that rogues are "gentlemen") 3) Speaking of rogues (the guild kind, not the bagpiping kind), thanks also goes to Ralph/Sas for coming up from the Dragon to help out and Tiger the roseseller for saving the last 6 pink roses at faire and for calling Sas when we were having trouble mustering a quorum (and I was so wound up after trying to get everybody together that I "repaid" Sas by forgetting the other roguing that was supposed to go off at 5:00). At any rate, I think I can speak for the everyone when I say it was our pleasure. Also, I think I've been the shyest member of this board so far. I had the courage to go up to Black Fox the first day of the festival and I've met a couple of other awesome people too, but I really need to break out of my shell... I'll say - if Dammiana is the Tudor Waldo, then you have a Genuine Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak® ;D If you're at the White Hart, I'm the guy in the white shirt and a long, grey ponytail - feel free to say hi (from a safe distance, if you prefer ;D) Which reminds me - thank you Mongo, for introducing yourself. If I somehow fail to recognize you in the future, blame it on Faire Brain (where I'm running around like an adolescent gerbil with ADD on crystal meth, and I have to hum through Happy Birthday to remember my own name).

Hey Will, you're a Gentleman AND a Rogue to me!
Seriously, I'm really thankful it went off as well as it did (and that the rain stayed away).
My mom really enjoyed her day at Faire. I was only sad I didn't get to show her more of it.
And on the 5:30 thing: I know about the Witch Trial. I keep meaning to watch it but haven't yet. *hides!* I peeked in on PubSing (at the White Hart) once but it didn't really do much for me. (maybe because I hadn't had anything to drink?) As far as the final joust goes....is it different from the other jousts of the day?

Ana, you haven't lived until youv'e heckled the Witch Trial... From the guy who wanders the fest site all day, constantly trying to cover the entire site 100% of the time, I'll say that it has indeed been a season of the highest caliber this year. The influx of members into the group is in no small way responsible for this, and I have enjoyed getting to know all of you. I hesitate to name names, cause I'll miss somebody...I smile when I realize how much more "extended" the ren-family is now. I know that my long-time ren-family, especially The Skulk of the Black Fox, Margareba, Clan Ravenwolves, Chelle and all the PollyDodgers (now there's a beebop group name just waiting to be used), Dan and Mandy, Das Mongos, Lucky and Pyllgrum, Denise and Jimmy (who are missed!), Lady Gloriana and Sir Dragon, LadyDragonfly, Chase (TeddyBears everywhere), Quadthane (can we get an ale in this place?), Lady Margaret "Magpie" Pie and that mug that makes her "accesories" look big, and all the rest I'm missing right now, I know that all of us are grateful that your'e here to help us carry on in the spirit of fellowship and goodwill that is our fest. And remember, everyday that brings us closer to the last day of this fest also brings us one day nearer to the first day of the next one... Find me Saturday...I plan to be quite besotted...

One cool, neat-o, and nifty thing about this year is that after the wedding, I was somehow able to just sort of jump in and start introducing myself...hell, I practically slammed into Will on Saturday and interrupted him mid-scurry, saying, "Hi Will Paisley! I'm Tigerlily!" (GADS, what did that poor man think?) Anyhoo, y'all have bolstered me confidence and that I've been sorely needin' for some time now. Yes, Ana, DO go to the Witch Trial AND pub sing!! You MUST! Amras, where the heck were ya last weekend? I didn't see hide nor hair of ya!
Now I'm afraid I might need to tone things down a little...I was whoopin' it up so much at an O'Danny Girls show that they called me a Jungle Bird...I hope I didn't offend or annoy...it was too many bee stings...Ana, you MUST try one! The first one's on me!
Love to you all!

Sigh.... what a love fest , I have to throw my two cents in... First of all let me say this is the nicest and kindest bunch of people whom I have met in years. I feel honored to have met those who I have introduced myself to and to those who have introduced themselves to me. This season has been a blast and I look forward to many more in the future!! Black Fox...I am so happy that we have become friends, I know that I have told you this but I am of the firm belief that people come into our lives when you need them most and I cherish the friendship which continues to grow everyday and I look forward to many years of hugs, smiles, and kisses from ya. You definitely put the spark into many people's lives, and if it wasn't for you and this fine board that you and so many others have put so much time and effort into most of us would never have met each other so a huge HUZZAHH to you! Jenn....my fellow SDW partner in crime! It seems as if the fates were smiling on us when we met last year. Two wondering lost souls trying to make a spot in the crazy little world of renfaire and we found each other. I knew when we first met that you were my soul sister and I am proud of all the mischief that we find ourselves in. You are definitely my BRFF and we will have to hang out during the off season! Al~ what can I say, your dedication to the SDW was well worth your promotion! As I told you before the SDW also act as protection from unwanted wenches just remember the SDW signal ;D and we will come a running! Tigerlilly and Kendall, two of the nicest and sweetest people EVER!! It was a no brainer to make Tigerlilly an official SDW, the O'Danny Girls were lucky that all three of us were not together! :)One can only inspire to find love as true as yours. It was an honor being able to attend your wedding and you two are truely meant for each other!! For all the others whom I did not mention here do not be offended as it is 5:00 and I should have left from work 30 minutes ago, you know you are loved, and to all those whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting I hope to meet you soon. Okay, enough of the sappy stuff, gosh I am going to be a wreck on the last weekend, must remember to bring the kleenex with me!

The first one's on me! 1) What the poor man thought - "Bloody hell, I took *pictures* of the couple and I *still* didn't recognize them? I guess that old adage about one's memory being the second thing to go must be true" 2) As long as the whooping's between songs and not during them (as in not in the middle, when nobody else is whooping or singng and thus drowning out the lyrics), then they (as well as any act at faire) are thrilled to hear it, and wouldn't think of having you or anybody "tone it down". The girls are almost frighteningly good at improvisation, so don't be surprised or taken aback when they pick you as the Audience Memeber to Have Fun With. Hey Will, you're a Gentleman AND a Rogue to me! Seriously, I'm really thankful it went off as well as it did (and that the rain stayed away). My mom really enjoyed her day at Faire. That's like the joke about the tombstone reading "Here lies a lawyer and an honest man", with onlookers wondeing how they got two men into the coffin. 2) I was about to try to describe Pub Sing, but my failure to do so is why I ended up making web pages for it. If you're watching it from the back or from outside, you'll miss whole sections due to the standard deafening ambient noise level at the White Hart. You also need a relatively good seat to see what's going on, as there are generally several things happening at once. For instance, Jonathan Strum might be singing something like "Lighthouse" or "Eat Bertha's Mussels" and you'll be wondering why the crowd's going crazy - if you come inside, you'll see see that HRH is waltzing cheek to cheek with Captain Moone, or that Jack Rackham is standing on one of the picnic tables doing the Cabbage Patch dance. It's basically a time when a lot of the cast lets their hair down (which is a bit like saying that the North Pole is a good place to cool off). Lots of physical comedy and *really* baudy humor. Not a place to taker the kids (unless you want to scar them emotionally). 3) The other jousts of the day are target jousts. The final joust is knight against knight, with lances breaking against breastplates. There's often a tie-in with the storyline at the end as well.

Not to fear, I'd NEVER whoop DURING a song or skit, only at appropriate moments when people are applauding a song, etc. Even though I AM a SDW, I CAN be a lady too! Don't worry about not recognizing us...we're still newbies after 3 seasons now and hey, you WERE in mid-scurry, right?! RIGHT!

Jen - no idea if you want to take up time at faire discussing ProgPower, but if you're ever in the mood to discuss various things Prog, talk to Joe Shelby (the male half of Cat and the Fiddle Morris Dancers). He's a virtual encyclopedia on the subject. Above all I love my music ~ even faire (GASP!!!) yep that's right, I said it... So anyone I can talk Prog about, any time, any where I'm game...
But I can't say I have any idea who the Fiddle Morris Dancers are... Try not to kill me all at once!!!
And Tigerlily ~ I would be totally into goofin' off at a show with you n' Sam!!! Ooooo I sense an annoying tradition in the making!!! hahaha ;D

Ooooo I sense an annoying tradition in the making!!! hahaha ;DHey, I CAN be annoying!! I EXCEL at it!! I stopped one of the O'Danny Girls (BF, sue me, I don't know which one is which yet...this is the FIRST year I've ever really seen 'em and now have to hit their shows all the time!!) and told her (in a pseudo-serious tone), "I'm now taking issue with that 'Jungle Bird' comment!" Whereupon she took ME seriously and started to apologize and said that it was all in good fun...and I'm like apologizing and saying, "I (capitalized and bolded 'I') was only joking with YOU! I would only whoop like I do 'cause I love you guys so much..." I don't want drama in my life and don't want to offend or annoy anyone....so maybe I should just be meek and mild and shaddup....(nah, it'd never woik)...OR we could do what YOU suggest, Jenn, and start a tradition! (Poor Kendall....)

Oh boy can the O'Dannys be fun. . . and they're so sweet that they don't want to step on anyone's toes because their show is PG13 already . . . they're the funniest, smartest, and loveliest ladies you'd ever want to meet at or outside of festival. They are very professional and although Daisy (Liz) seems kinda' the silliest on stage, she's very serious about her craft and even owns her own Comedy club in DC. They really love their fans. . . . and let us get away with practically anything. . . just check out www.ogirthyboys.com if you have any question!

I had already checked out your ogirthyboys site a coupla weeks ago and think it's a hoot! Kendall and I ADORE...simply ADORE the O'Danny Girls and I would NEVER want to annoy or offend them. Not being a performer myself, I just have to wonder what performers DO think of rowdy audience members...rowdy within boundaries, not interrupting the show, etc....maybe I should say "enthusiastic"...THAT'S a much better term! I've never been quiet or demure...get a few bee stings in me and I truly do channel my inner Screaming Drunken Wench! I just don't want to be an annoyance to anyone...I'm just enthusiastic, but would NEVER step on their songs or dialogue. I guess maybe I felt such affection for them and their own rowdiness that I somehow felt the liberty to just let my freak flag fly, ya know? Thanks for reaffirming what wonderful people the O'Danny's are! And yes, I have seen Liz perform in many different roles other than her O'Danny Girl persona and she is sooooo awesomely talented! Gosh, if I only had a thimble-full of that talent, I'd be a truly happy camper indeed! (And would be opening in Vegas in NO-TIME! ha!)

Well my dear, everything tastes better through a straw :-) That's my story and I'm sticking to it :-)
Also, The Dragon pub show ROCKS..Now, I wouldn't say, if you have small children, you should bring them as a few of us "ladies" (I use this term very loosely) tend to bypass the PG-13 rating :-) but it's a blast!!!! :-)
Good times, Good times :-)
BTW...Even though MDRF isn't having Oktoberfest this year doesn't mean I can't :-) I'll be in full BLUE DIRNDL on Saturday...:-)

Well this is my first real MDRF season (I am ashamed to admit that I only attended as a patron once... a wretchedly rainy and chilly day last Oct. Something about the experience convinced me I wanted to do this for a living... hmm...) so I don't really have a comparison, but I am having a great one! I haven't met many of you (please feel free to say hello--that vapid expression on my face is mostly dizziness from standing on a swinging rope all day) but I've enjoyed meeting those I have. All of you are wonderful and really make it a fun place to perform. This will be my last weekend, but it's been great!

Awwww. . .then I shall make a point to capture your performance upon the video box to watch at later times (we run video at our social gatherings throughout the year to remember festival). I so enjoyed your performance and humour, I hope they invite you back next season. There's a somewhat of a redemption feeling when you're asked back I'd bet. . . kinda' like "all that training and work has paid off." In fact we could call your act next season. . . "The Sashenka Redemption." I know. . . but I had to use the pun. . . I've been dying to.

Octoberfest eh? Oh the memories that brings back! I am so there ... come to think of it, the Dragons Lair has a great Sammie October Fest on tap ... I think I will head down there to kick off the day.
